Could you please help me choose lenses?

It seems like you have alot of experience in optics. I was referred to you by Barry G. I'm a student filmmaker. My budget is average. I'm getting a Letus35 with some lenses. I want to start with rather cheap lenses for the practice and testing purposes before I move on to those Zeiss and other high end lenses.

I came across these Nikon prime set:

Nikkor 35mm 2D
Nikkor 50mm 1.8 AF
Between Nikkor 85mm 1.4 or Nikkor 105mm 2.8 Micro VR;
(for dialogue purposes, I'll be doing alot of MS and CU in 10x10 or little larger room)

Tell me what you think and if you have any suggestions feel free to add. I will be honored. I truly need your advice because I have never purchased SLR lenses for my video camera before I want to make sure I'm making the right purchase.

Thanks a bunch.

If you're on a budget the 85mm 1.8 is a great lens. Just don't shoot it under 2.8 for maximum sharpness.

The VR will not work on the Letus or any other adapter. It requires power from a Nikon AF body. You can buy the non-VR version or even an off-brand macro from Sigma, Tamron or Tokina. All of them should be sharp enough for this application.

The 35mm F2 is a great lens, definately a huge value for a relatively small price.

Thanks for your input. It really helps.

Don't forget that you can also use Canon lens with the Letus35. All you have to do is flip around the lens mounting ring.

And since you're just starting out, remember this: The audience doesn't ask what lens or what adapter or what camera you used. They ask for a great characters and great storytelling.

Good luck!
