One hit and a couple of misses

This dvxuser site is so extensive I've spent the last couple weeks tenderly examining such forums as HVX200 general, hardware, screencaps, and Lighting. etc etc.

But this is my first time browsing audio, and I'm ashamed to say I never posted my newbie "what should I buy" post before buying a boompole kit. I never even peeked inside.

So here's what I bought:

Gitzo G557

Gitzo Shockmount

Sennheiser ME67 with K6 & windscreen

I don't really have any questions but I did just read about most people's recommendation of Oktava over anything else in this price range. Had never heard of that brand. If I had a question I suppose one would be "what would complement the ME67 for indoor Vs outdoor recording?"

Beyond this purchase its on to a mixer! Maybe just maybe...one day... a Tamrac HDP2.

To record indoor dialogue the mic of choice is typically a hyper-cardioid. It reduces the reverb associated with shotguns in tight, reflective conditions. The Oktava is a great mic for it's price, but there are others that are better but cost more.

Thats a little misleading bob, sorry..

the reason a shotgun isn't used indoors is because we find the sound at its most natural when the room acoustics are accounted for. This is how we hear people all the time. The sound picked up from the side of a shotgun mic is muffled so when used in a reverby room sounds a bit weird. a hypercardioid has much less muffled sound off-axis, and so sounds more like what we are used to hearing.

on perfect acoustic stage there would be no any benefit to hyper at all
sonicaly the short mics sound more natural - and it also quit depends on mik brand .
for you first quwestion , you defenetly dont want very sharp mic as me 67 which primery good to record on busy strit and not more then it .

Yeah, you said that better. After 1 am I think my brain started to go to sleep. I understand why a hyper is used indoors, just came out wrong.

a ton of us on here have oktava mk-012's

i have two of them...

i have moved up to the schoeps cmc6/mk41 and then added the cut1.

but i still have the oktava mk-012's in case i need to mount two mics for ambient sound or other actors who have lines away from where the primary actors/boom with schoeps hyper cardioid or cmit5u is in use.

the sanken cub-01 is also a favorite that doesn't come up often enough.
