Is it a bad idea to take the adapter on this trip?

Hi guys,

This September I'm going on an expedition in remote areas in Siberia and Mongolia. And by remote, I mean really remote. We are told that it is not going to be an easy trip. However, I'm going there to film the expedition and I would love to capture the faces of the tribesman there with my Letus. But since it's going to be a hard trip and I might have to grab my camera within a second now and then, do you think it's a good idea to take it with me?

I'll also probably need to switch lenses from time to time, for instance for wide angle shots etc, but since the Letus attracts dust pretty easily, I'm not sure if it's the adapter for this kind of work.

Thanks for your input, much appreciated.

Sounds like a perfect example of when to leave the adapter at home...

For that shallow-DOF look you can get it outdoors (for the tribesmen) by zooming in to full telephoto and putting in all the ND filters you can (even an external ND filter) so that you're at f/2.8. It'd be much easier to do that than to drag a big ol' Letus with a bunch of lenses through the dusty terrain.

I too am considering taking a 35mm adapter on some remote shoots. However, I haven't made any purchases yet.

While I can see why which and carrying multiple lenses may be difficult you have to figure that all your gear will still weight less then a Beta and many films cameras.

Love to know what you decide.

Thanks! But still I don't want to feel guilty for leaving it at home. What if I'd just take it with me and only use it on shots that really "deserve" a 35mm adapter? I can savely store it in my Pelican case, so I don't think it would be too much of a problem, unless the vehicle with my suitcase flips over or something :) Or am I being irrational?

I dont think taking it will be a huge issue, but agree that using it could hinder spur of the moment shooting. Also dont know that I would use it for some shots and not for others - the "look" is too different for me and would be hard to intercut in my opinion.
