I posted this question on DVinfo but its always good to get the DVX point of view!!

Has anyone used Lupo lights? They do a great looking 150W HMI for just €480 including bulb, really tempting, but just wondering if anyone has used them before, particularly for location work?

Its is bloody hard trying to fine cost effective HMI lighting in the UK, and this seems like a good option!

Yeah, there is a nice chap on the DVinfo forum who rents them out in Sydney. Just wondered if anyone had any real world comparisions with the like of Arri's etc.

I also may have the option on an Arri 575 HMI fresnel... obviously a bit more expensive!!

Thanks for the link vidled! I just put in a request for a catalog and price info. I'll let you know what I find....

Anyone? What happened to this post? Those Lupo HMIs are the only cheap option inside EU that I know of, has anyone used their products?

This stuff looks interesting.
Cheap, how cheap?
Any ideas on prices for the 150 or 250? (could not find any).

In first post there is the 150 price of €480 incl bulb. For Europe this is cheap ad we get +20% on price on any non-europe import goods.

They're doing that thing where they call it an "800" because it puts out 800 watts of tungsten equivalent light for only 150 real watts.

I hate that. It's deceptive.

Its also pretty much impossible at this point. Very doubtful you could make a CDM or HMI for that matter that draws 150w and puts out 800w worth of light. That'd be 106 lumens per watt and the norm is around 85 lumens per watt.

Should be about the equivalent of a 650w tungsten and that's it.
