Blurring emblems, trademarks, etc. in footage

With a garbage matte and the blur filter. Easier to do with an animated mask in Motion and the blur filter.

Final Cut- Duplicate your footage. So now you have the tracks ontop of eachother. Now on the top layer, add a Garbage matte, a 4 point g.m will do because the license plate is in a square, and a 4 point garbage matte consists of 4 points. If your on a tripod, and the camera is still, its all easy. But if the camera is moving, simply apply keyframes to each point, and go frame by frame (or a couple frames ahead each time) and while your doing this, you are making sure the garbage matte is exactly around the perimeter of the license plate. When you are down switch the mode to final and take a look, You may have to feather it, or round it off. Now on this track, go to filter, blur, and choose gaussian. Find the blurryness you need

After Effects- Do the duplication, and rotoscope the licence plate. Again Go frame by frame and go around the perimeter. Feather it if u need to. Now on that rotoscoped layer, go to effect, blur, gaussian (gaussian should work fine) and fine the blurryness u want
