Production Monitor or tv??

So I have a dvx , should I spend my $500 rebate on a production monitor or $300 on a tv with a bigger screen, to use as a monitor? I am aware that the production monitor offers more options as far as image tweeking and such, but I am a beginner and I'm thinking at this juncture, as long as I can make my video look good on tv, I should be ok.........any suggestions? I am aware that many users use their monitor in the field, but that is something I probably won't be doing at the present moment. My final product is intended for sd tv.

thanks

Yes, I bought a 9" JVC CRT field monitor and it is one of the best investments I have made.

On set it is excellent to see exactly what is going on in the image (underscan, correct color and black levels). I use it for color grading in post too. It is a little small for this application, but my colors transfer well to every medium.
