Simple Question:

I have the highest quality footage on .avi - captured, edited and rendered. The thing is, I wanna use Vegas for all my editing first and then I use FCP for the actual color correction..

How do I import the highest quality .avi in FCP - do my color correction, and export it onto a DVD in the best quality available without losing any detail in the footage? What setting do I use?

Thanks in advance

FCP does not play nice with .avi's. You'll need a program to go from windows format to a quicktime file. Fotunatly there are a million programs to do this.

from Vegas export Mpeg2 at the highest quailty and then use MpegStreamClip (free) to make a quicktime

or

From Vegas export Avi at the highest quality and use Flip for Mac (99.00) to import it into FCP

once you get it color corrected just export using Compressor and burn it with DVD Studio Pro.

I would not use MPEG-2 if you are going to then color correct in FCP. That would result in a huge loss of quality.

Perhaps a TIF or TGA image sequence out of Vegas if the piece is not incredibly long. Or simply output to tape and recapture on the FCP system. Anything you can do to avoid the AVI to QuickTime exchange process.

Or just output as QT Animation at best quality. This will be uncompressed - Basically the equivalent of a TIFF sequence but easier to handle. Then import that into FCP.
