Turn a 2d photo into 3d

Excellent example. If only the learning curve for 3d programs wasn't beyond my abilities (or lazyness), I'd give it a go :P

I'm POSITIVE the 3D apps are not beyond you. I've seen your threads. You definitely aint no dope.

But, you are right...laziness is a problem. It takes many many many hours to learn and many more to master. I know my way around Maya but avoid it at all costs...

PS Anhar, that was excellent.

hey cheers guys,

anhar, how long will it take to convert a 90 minute movie?

:) not as long as you might think, but saying that it works best with stills really, as opposed to video. Because most of the information is taken from one angle, rather then a moving one.

Ok, that was cool. How'd you do it? What app?

Yea, I used Max, you can use pretty much any major 3d application that can do "Projection Mapping".

Mind you it does have its limitations, its just knowing to work around it!

that example one only took about 2 minutes to make (its just a box and a flat plane), then just matched the camera angle (not perfectly, the better the match the better results).

I've got some crazy ideas planned (with a different method, blended into it, may not have been done before, so I'll see how its goes)

I can only imagine the fun involved with something a bit fancier than a box. " I have a pictue of my dog, do that for me?"

hmm, that dog idea is not as simple as it sounds, you would have to basically model the whole dog! (a simple box will not work).

Though in theory it could work.

Nice work.

For people scared of large 3d apps, RealViz Image Modeler does it well and it's quite easy to use. One or two tutorials and you're off and running... or modelling. :)

Of course, there is always the famous fake 3d optical illusion:

Therefore, you could build and tweak a simple 3d model containing a texture map of a person and have a similar effect without all of the complex modelling work of an anatomical human model. It depends on your final use of the model.
