Anyone have this Cavision .4x fisheye lens, ($435) and have any experience with it, or any pics or footage from it? And does it have any vignetting?
I'm thinking if I should eventually get that lens or the
Century .55x Super fisheye.

Anyone have the Century lens and or pics and footage from it? Any vignetting?

Anyone? Or anyone have any idea where I could find pics of footage of them? I always find it odd that companies like Century (schneider) never have actual footage of a certain lens on a certain camera on their site. Well not really odd, but it would be a nice touch. They usually have a screenshot comparison of with or without the lens but they use the same shots for a few diff lenses or a few diff camera setups even though the same lens looks different on a different camera.

2650 for the Century extreme fisheye. Also it depends on which HVX it is mounted on regarding vingetting. I have 5 HVX's and there is no vignetting on 2 of them with the lens. The other 3 have the slight vingetting in the upper left corner. It has to do with the placement of the CCD chips in the individual cameras.

Do a search, one of the users recently posted comparison footage from both the century and the century extreme. It was a great post and you will find it super useful.

Ya, it does. I'm interested in that one too. But it seems so hard to find video footage of these lenses with a HVX200,

Actually I did see that one, I meant more like there is no footage for the other lenses.

I did see that comparison, which was a pretty good comparison and very usefull. I still haven't found any footage from the Cavision lens though.

Where did you get that lens for that price? Either way, it's a bit too much money for me, and the vignetting and weight of the lens is a turnoff too. But I know what you mean about the vignetting and ccd chips alignment, people would have different looking vignettings on the VX1000 according to the alignment off the CCD's on that camera too. I wonder if Century will come out with a mkii version of that lens that is a tiny bit less wide but with no vignetting visible on any camera.
How do you like that lens overall? Obviously the width is unmatched by any other lens, but how is the CA and quality in your opinion? Do you have any sample footage of your own to post?

That sample footage is exactly the same as the the one for the sony fx1 and canon xha1. But for the hvx 200 you need a stepup-ring (72mm-82mm). This will probably result in more distortion, but maybe also in lots of vignetting.
It is a fact that it is really awfull that they don't post some serious samples. It's not like buying bottle of water in the supermarket you know. We deserve to be well informed.

About the cavision... I mailed my local dealer and they told me that the cavision quality in general cannot compare to schneidder/century.
I have been looking for a fisheye for a while and for now, there doesn't seem to be any solution. I was thinking about having a 'spacer' made for the century super fisheye, to create more distortion. But that would be a big gamble.

Let me know if you find some samples !

I really dislike how they do that. Use one shot from one camera/lens and use that sample for all the different setups. Very misleading.

Just got an email from Cavision.

Do you have any screenshots or video of the .4x Fisheye Adapter (LFA04X72-HVX-HD100) on a Panasonic HVX200? A lot of people want to know if there is vigenetting and how wide the lens is on the HVX200.

Thank you for your interest in Cavision's products.

Unfortunately at this time we do not have any test pictures of the fisheye
adapter on the HVX-200.

It may be a possibility to try online to some of the forums and see if you
can find someone that does have some.

Any questions, please let me know.

I just ordered the 16x9 Inc Fisheyed lens and hope it arrives before the weekend so I can shoot some tests with it. If so, I'll post what I can. (I will be shooting with the HVX) I've been frustrated in not finding sample footage for the different fisheyed lenses. I was looking at the Century Extreme Fisheye but couldn't justify the price, so I'm taking a gamble on the 16x9.

Nice, in the sample footage on the 16x9 site it looks nice, even thought it might be a different camera setup. Definitely give us a mini review and pics!
If someone did a camparison between that 16x9 fisheye and the Century .55x super fisheye, that would be perfect! (prob not gonna happen though)

I don't know if you film skate- or snowboarding, but i do :-) If youdo also, you probably know what i mean but could you take a shot from a grown up person from a very low perspective ?
thanks a lot for taking the gamble man !

I emailed 16x9 inc in regarding to the sample footage.
this is the answer i got :

Hello Senne,

In fact the footage you see on our web site of the Super Fisheye was
taken with the HVX200. No vignetting . We are using it for the other
cameras and this is somewhat misleading to some degree on the very
tele-photo wide angles on the Canon H1 , XL 2 and Sony V1U where the
fisheye effect will not be as dramatic. We hope to update our footage
for the Canon H1 and Sony V1U very soon however. On the Canon XHA1 and
Sony Z1 the effect is very similar to the Panasonic HVX200.
My personal background before starting 16x9 Inc. was as Vice President
of Century Optics for almost 20 years. I can assure you I have no
deliberate intention of misleading anyone . We just have not had the
time to do the update. I believe over time people will come to realize
the 16x9Inc. lens accessories will be a viable alternative to other
professional add-ons on the market.
We will send you some images from the original shoot with the Panasonic
HVX200 in the near future
Thank you for your comments.
Sincerely,
Jeff Giordano
Vice President

I picked mine up from Adorama for 2512.:)

Post up those pics if they actually send them to you.
Oh I see the 16x9 is .45x fisheye. It's probably a tad wider than the Century .55x one. I'm leaning towards the 16x9, even though the bayonet mount on the Century is more attractive. (16x9 uses 72-82mm adapter and is threaded)

It won't be skate or snowboard footage, but there's a breakdance competition this Saturday that should provide good use of the fisheye lens. I'm sure I'll have mostly low angle shots of the people. I bought the lens from B&H and it shipped today, so hopefully I'll have it in time. It will be run and gun shooting so it won't be great footage but should be a good test.

Also, if possible, could you do a shot directly in to the sun and an artificial light source ?
Hope i am not to demanding... thx !!
