Hey guys... i have been searching for an answer and cant seem to find one anywhere on the forum so i hope someone knows what i am doing wrong..

When ever i try and export my project out of final cut pro the end result always looks like the picture below... it looks fine when there is minimal movement on screen but when there is action or the someone moves fast, even speaks fast, you can see the interlaced lines and it really ruins the look of the projects..

i have tried almost every export option including compressor and cant figure it out.

can someone please help me!

You could try a de-interlace filter, but then are sacrificing quality of image.

Otherwise, gotta ask, what did you shoot with (format/frame rate) and what are you trying to export exactly (raw/same format QT, MPEG-2 for DVD authoring, H264 for web)?

Cheers.

I have tried de-interlacing it.... and nothing works...

The screen grab was taken from somthing shot in 60i but the same thing is also present in 30p and 24p... i just want a high quality video file to play back to people, and eventualy put on a demo dvd.

Thanks,

Hi,

if it's 60i have you tried to watch it in a tv screen? If it looks good, no problem at all. If not you may have setup the sequence preset wrongly as upper field instead of lower. Usually DV and DVCPro are lower all the others upper.
Then if you need to export for video DVD it's the same story as above. Sequence setting is fundamental!
But if you need to export it to web then you choose the option in compressor to deinterlace it.

nope all sequences are set to lower fields, and in compressor i have already tried to de-interlace it and nothing works

But again, have U tried to watch it form FCP to a video monitor or TV through firewire?
Does it look like that? Stills always look like that with interlaced video.

no because i can't.... i dont have either, i dont want it to play on a video monitor, i just want it to play right on my laptop..

Thanks,

just look at the picture above... that is h.264 and it is the same for everything else i try

Have you tried converting to a progressive format? I've used compressor and converted interlaced footage to progressive with the DVCPRO HD 720p24 setting. This takes the footage to 23.97 so you'll need to start a new timeline. It does get rid of the interlace jaggies and you can get clean still shots.

ok, i will try that... i mean it is SD footage, i didnt know you could export as HiDef...

But the thing is, that that stuff i shot in 30p and 24p have the same problem... so i dont see how exporting it to a progressive format will fix it... but i will try... thanks

30p footage: set the field order to "none." that will get rid of those lines.
60i footage: what do you expect, it's interlaced
24p footage: well, if you shoot standard 24p and edit and output to 29.97, those lines will be there. if you don't want them to be there, shoot 24pA, edit in a 23.98 NLE and output a 24p DVD. if you already have footage you shot at 24p standard you can do a cinema tools reverse telecine on that footage and edit/output in 24p.

hope that helps.

yea that helps some, thanks!

But... what if i have 30p and 24p (regular) stuff on the same timeline...

And even if it is 60i it should not look like that... i have seen many different things in 60i and none of then look like my 60i stuff does

i have tried everything that people have sugessted here... but still, nothing works..... sombody out there must have the answer?

Isn't 1080i upper field dominant? I thought it was different than DV, which is is lower field. If I am remembering correctly, trying the "upper" setting should help.

im not shooting HD, im shooting dv and it does this for all formats.... 30p 60i 24p.... and i already have tried upper and lower field dominance... still nothing works

I find that when exporting with Compressor the deinterlace option in 'Frame Controls' does absolutely nothing and nor does anything else in the 'Frame Controls' tab. To deinterlace I must select deinterlace in the 'Filters' tab in compressor. Maybe you are experiencing the same bug/problem I am.
