Anybody willing to rent out their audio equipment in LA?

Hey, this is kind of a Kill 2 birds with 1 stone post. First I need to know what I need. Second I need to know if anybody here (in Los Angeles) is willing to rent it out to me.

I'm shooting something on a regular camcorder (with no XLR audio input) but I would still like to record good sound. So what I think I need is a seperate audio recording device. From what I understand, these devices record directly into a hard drive? Whatever it is, it has to be something I can easily transfer over to my PC computer.

Next I either need two wireless mics, or one mic and boom pole. If anyone can either set me straight on exactly what I'm looking for, and then for anyone who would like to rent out this equipment, post in here or PM me. Thanks.

Best,
Chris

you heve coffee sound and location sound , probably a few more who rent out equip .
sorry, my rents are on the othger side of the planet ;-)

I second Oleg's recommendation about Coffey Sound. I too live in the LA area (Huntington Beach) and buy almost all my sound equipment from them exclusively. The sales staff is extremely knowledgable and helpful, it was on their recommendation I checked out the AT4073a over the ME66. They have demo setups in the store that you can listen to. They are a major supplier for major Hollywood productions and are well-known in the sound business. They're right across the street from Universal Studios on Cahuenga.

Since you're based in L.A. you have access to two of the primary suppliers of rental equipment - Coffey and Location. (Trew down in Nashville is the third). They are friendly, very knowledgable and will make sure you're well taken care of.

Hey guys,

Thanks for those recommendations. Maybe you can tell me a little more about these guys. This is such a small project, I wanted to rent my stuff from an individual (to get a cheap price). I'm afraid Coffee and Location might be a little too expensive for such a tiny endeavor. But I don't know, maybe I'm way off. What do you think?

(In my mind for a mic, a boom, and a device to record to, I didn't want to pay more than $150 for the day - am I dreaming?)

Put an ad out on craigslist to see if anyone would be willing to volunteer their time and equipment for either a low price or for copy / credit. That's probably the cheapest way to go and you might find someone who really wants to build up their reel (audio-wise) and are talented at the same time.

The student package at http://www.coffeysound.com/pages.php?pageid=26
rents for $200 a day.
Package includes: (1x) DAT Recorder or 2 Channel Flash Recorder, (1x) Timecode Slate, (1x) Boom Mic Kit (Shotgun Microphone, Boom Pole & Softie), (1x) Headphones, (1x) Upright Sound Cart.
If you dont need the slate or the cart you may get it for $150.
