Shooting at night in the wood

Hey!

I'm going to shoot a short at night in the wood. My biggest concern is how to get power out there? I don't know the exact locations in the wood yet, but I don't think we can stretch cables all that way... It may be 200 meters or 500 meters, I really don't know yet. Any ideas?

We use 500w worklights...

Using stinger after stinger will result in a large line loss, basically, the power you get out there (if any) will be significantly less what you started with. In a professional setting, you would have a generator, and run 5-Wire to your set, where it would be split up into lunchboxes, etc.

Okey.. But a generator makes some loud noise! Is it okay to use a 100 m extension cord from the generator to the set? I know a guy that has a generator, don't know how much power it can deliver though... I think I will try to put the generator behind a big rock, or down in a ditch or something, and maybe surround it with cast plates. How about that?

Al-

That would be better than nothing, but use packing blankets, or a heavy fabric on stands, or wood. It will absorb the sound a bit better. They make smaller Honda generators that are pretty quite.
100 m - depends on the generator, but try it before hand. Use flos and lights that don't need as much power.
Good Luck

Thank you! I'll see if I can barrow a generator from someone I know. Is wool heavy fabric? Can I just surround the generator with wool blankets?
