Tiffen GlimmerGlass film look?

Hi,

When taking a look at some footage shot with the G35 I notice that not only does it have a very nice sharp DOF, but it also produces a very beautiful subtle "glow" that cuts the video edge and makes it look very film like. I was wondering if there's any filter out there that will produce this effect. Sometime ago I saw a still photo that used a Tiffen GlimmerGlass (I cannot recall the intensity) and it had a similar effect. Did anyone have such an experience with any filter out there?

P.S - The thing with diffusion filters is that if it's not subtle enough you'll end up with footage that looks like a bad porn

I'm a fan of the Black Pro Mist, I amost always have a 1/4 on when shooting striaght video.

Did you ever try glimerglass? I tried black pro mist once (don't recal the intensity) and I found it had too much of a glow. Would it be possible for you to post some footage, kind sir?

>does a polarizer do the same effect?

If it's dirty.

I Use a 1/4, sometimes a 1/8 BPM, so the effect is so subtle it wouldn't show up well on a screen grab. I also have a #2BPM that I use for effect shots that is definately very strong.

Have not used Glimmerglass but it's supposed to produce a great result. As the others have stated, 1/8 BPM is a nice filter for video.

with polarizers out there for color enhancement and bpm for the film look what other filters are out there to get the best looking picture out of you cam.

i keep hearing about these bpm filters i have to get me one. i dont have a dvx i have the lil bro the dvc80 will the bpm give my video a better look maybe even get it one step closer to the 24 in the dvx?

a bpm just spreads the blacks and smoothens out gradients, sort of drawing shadows towards highlights. it also dulls the hard lines/edges that are inherent in video. combined with nice lighting, composition and colour palettes, a bpm will look nice. in my own taste, i don't like it stronger than 1/8, unless i am going for something very specific. but also, if you have deep focus through out, a bpm can just make you image look like it is badly focused. IMO, i only like using bpm when i can get some nice depth and shallow focus in my shots.

i just got my bpm this morn its a nice piece of glass when i held it up to the sun i saw a pattern of what looked like a pattern of sand on within the glass so i was wondering if the glass was sandblasted and thats what gives the effect and makes the glass do what it does so i guess my question is this normal?

The filter is 2 pieces of glass sandwiched together, with the optical treatment (various kinds) in between.
