So, i went to radio shack the other day and got inspired ot make the spinning cd adapter... i bought a project box, and the battery box and started messing around with it....

I used the lense and mount off an old vivitar, and i got the motor from my broken PS1. The box is 5x7x3, wich was terrible becasue i had to grind out the inside with my dremel to make the cd fit.

i havent gotten the macro piece yet but i tried it with my cam and it seems to work great, here are some pics of it without the macro, and a sample of what it looks like without the macro (lots of vig becasue the camera cant zoom and focus in that far).
i basically just put the camera up to the box and held it while i walked around abd focused...

btw, dont kill my high, this is my first real diy camera thing, if you have nothing constructive to say, leave me alone, im excited! haha

Links dead.

You don't want to touch the GG/cd. Use an achromat, not a macro for the magnification. Macros, even the expensive ones with cause Chromatic aberration, smearing, etc.. I'd also recommend painting the inside all black (flat matte), any color/gloss will show in your picture, if the light hits it just right. :)

Looks nice!

Here's my opinion... the best bang for your buck. This might seem like alot of money especially if this is your first adapter. However in the long run, it will save you lots of time and money. Think of it as a coffee filter, it removes all of the stuff you don't want. In this case CA, smearing, etc.. I know alot of people here might seem very critical, but they're all just trying to help (some people have their own way of doing so).
You're off to a good start.

Good luck!

thanks for your input, ill definatly keep it in mind...

for now im just really trying to get some wort of a 35mm look becasue im really new to this whole deal, before i got my dvx i was usign a vx2100 and had never heard of a 35mm adapter haha

i just made a new gg, i have 3 black plastic cds, one with very little "frosting" one that has alot of "frosting" and another in the middle

the test clip was filmed with the middle one and i think thats why i get that circle of brightness in the center of the footage, its the ligth of the lense not being diffused enough so its making an outline...

im just mad my macro didnt know up today... hopefully by tommorow i can have a finished project...

all i need to do is make some sort of rails/suppoert system for it...

Getting your first footage from a DIY project is an exciting thing...I'll never forget the rush (as a long-time SLR film photog) viewing footage from my very first DIY effort. It was a spinner not so different from yours :-)

For about the same price as the Century 58mm +7, we can provide a 72mm HD achromat of similar quality, but with 30% more power. The achromat is usually the weak link in DIY efforts...and these took us nearly 8 months to get fully sorted.
