What do you want from an online distribution partner?

Hi all,

We are looking for info on what you, as a content provider, want from an online distribution partner. I apprieciate any responses you can provide.

Some key questions are:

1. How would you like your content presented/delivered? Do you prefer DVD, streaming or download? Think of your answers in terms of both short form and long form content.

2. What type of revenue model is ideal for you, the content provider? (Ad supported, pay per view/click, download to own revenue share)

3. Would you allow ads (pre-roll, post-roll, lower thirds) to be placed in your content?

4. For digital downloads, how important is DRM to you? Would you accept a DRM-free solution? Would you accept a passive DRM (like watermarking)?

5. What, if anything, is stopping you from using current online distribution vendors?

1. Judging from the other questions, I'm guessing this is about online content. I'm primarily interested in DVD distribution, but I'll humor you.

2. If I were plannng on doing web content, I'd make it available for download. I don't see many people paying much to watch a movie in a web page. Thus, I'd likely use a pay-per-download strategy.

3. I'd permit ads in pre-roll and post-roll, but nothing else.

4. I'd likely do a passive DRM solution, though I'd settle for none at all if I had to.

5. Not having the completed film.

1. all three
2. download to own.
3. pre-roll ads.
4. i would insist on a DRM-free solution.
5. a lack of traffic, or built-in exposure. the day the itunes stores opens up to independent content producers, i'm going with them. until then, i'd prefer tp drive traffic to my own site for content purchases/downloads.

I think you're my new favorite member of DVXUser

I too would insist on no DRM.

Oh, and for downloads, using a patent-free format like Ogg Theora would be great, so that people in all platforms (Win, Mac, and Linux) would have access to my content.
