I went to by a DVX100 but a friend was selling one that he picked up in Japan, which seems identical, but is apparently for the Japanese market. its called a DVC180A.

Does anyone know anything about this camera, is it the same as a DVX100A. Have i been duped?

DVC180A? I have never heard of that as the name for the Japanese version of the DVX.

If you did buy a Japanese DVX, the menus would probably be in Japanese, and you would have no warranty, but it would be NTSC and otherwise work fine.

Doesn't sound like much of a friend :)

*looks like* after translating a google search from chinese, that that is a dvx. My hits were chinese though, which would mean probably PAL.

Regardless, dude... don't worry about it. Get the real thing.

yeah, Im pretty sure its pal. To Late though, i bought it, but he was getting rid of everything, and i got it for 1000 bucks (about $830 US), so i couldtn say no. I hope i havent made a big mistake

Actually you haven't. PAL is better quality than NTSC. Actually before HD was affordable, a lot of U.S filmakers bought a PAL version because of the 25fps which is closer to 24ps than ntsc 30fps(29.97), and because of it's better quality PAL yield better result for film transfer.
when you edit your work on your computer all you will have to do is output your final edit to an NTSC quicktime so that you can view it on your tv.

Very good buy.

Um...the NTSC DVX is 24fps. Which is a lot closer to 24fps than 25fps is.

Well, 23.97fps to deal with the NTSC nonsense....
