i have music from itunes i bought that is in a mp4 format but soundtrack pro wont even let me open it so i can convert it to an AIFF format to import into FCP. how can i get these music files into FCP??? is there some conversion software for free i can download for mac???

That would be a violation of copyright- so it wouldn't be a great idea for this message board to guide you in breaking the law. But if you insist, I'm sure you'll find some utility via some simple Google searching.

Menu Bar > iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Importing > Import Using

- change this to AIFF encoder.
- Select the tracks you bought in iTunes, right click and chose "Convert to AIFF"

Then you'll just need to track down the tracks in your iTunes folder structure. Good luck.

cheers.

Noah,

Is it in violation of US copyright (am in Canada myself) to use music you buy in iTunes (or equivalent) for personal/educational (and I mean real educational) purposes? I know a lot of that stuff has been grey area for a long time so kind of curious. Obviously if you put it in a film and then try and market that film at film fests and the like without having proper release agreements, you're totally breaking the law.

cheers.

That won't work on anything purchased from the iTunes music store. Try it and you'll see for yourself.

Technically yes. Does everyone do it anyway- yes. Like I said, this information can be found very easily on Google. It's just not something wise for this board to advise you on.

Ah okay. I never purchase from there because Apple Canada gives us the royal screw job. Everytime I find something I'm looking for, its only available on Apple USA and unless you have a USA credit card you can't buy anything from them.

cheers.
