The Varizoom Flowpod works well---not cumbersome like a tripod with legs folded up. It is a monopod that has a gimballed handle so that it can function as a hand held stabilizer. Great for doing floating shots through a crowd, its relatively compact and when you need a static platform, extend the leg and you have your monopod. http://www.varizoom.com/products/stabilizers/vzfp.html
If you have any interest in one that is nearly new, PM me as this is not the appropriate board. Mine is available as I recently spent a bunch of money for a steadicam type rig.
I agree with gfranks. I own the manfrotto since a few days and its really good to handle, its light and has a fluid stand at the bottom. I realized some good tele shots in 55mm zoom with it.

I also have the 560B and really like the smooth pans that the fluid head provides.
Have either of you had any problems when tilting the monopod? It seems like when I do this, the tilting motion encounters some resistance at the ball that connects the stick to the feet.
Perhaps it's not meant to be used in this manner, but that seems odd since sometimes you need tilt when panning.
