Cheapest HDTV Viewing Monitor

I'm looking for a somewhat cheap HD viewing monitor so I can watch outputted or DVD's of HVX200 footage. I don't really need it to edit, but more for final stages output. The monitor being 1:1 would be required to. I know there can be a big difference when viewing some as a computer monitor vs. viewing monitor. I was looking at a Dell 22" monitor that goes for $279, but i've read that as a viewing monitor it looks bad or awful. Is it possible to get one that would even do a good job doubling as a Editing/Viewing monitor, or should I just edit on a 15" MBP and watch it outputted on a Viewing Monitor? Any suggestions appreciated.

does it need to have component input?
I guess it doesn't but it's be nice to be able to also watch hvx200 footage right from the camera to the tv. You have something in mind?

Anyone know, use or have this monitor?
Akai PDP4273M 42" HD Widescreen Plasma
It's $799 after a $100 Microcenter mail in rebate.

I saw it in person at Microcenter and it looked pretty good. (they were playing some dvd movie)

Here's the CNET review on it.

hey beestooth

let me know how you're liking the monitor when you get it. it's within my budget and seems like a good thing. Can it flip your picture? Sorry, I think I know the answer but I had to ask.

Keep in mind unless you are burning Blu-ray or HD DVD's, your DVD output footage from the HVX will be in SD, so you dont need a HD monitor to view that.
If you want something to view the footage straight from the camera or hook up to a laptop via the DVI output, then you could look at the Dell or you could try finding a Sony MFM-HT75W. I picked one up new for under $500 and it has been a good little 17" HD monitor with DVI, component & composite inputs.

Any monitor you can accuratly calibrate will do, which means that you'll need a monitor with "blue Gun Only" capabilities.

Can you elaborate on that a bit? What would be some "blue gun only" monitors?
