While trying to capture, I began having problems locating timecode on the tapes. I'd turn the deck (sony dvcam) on and off again, open and close the log and capture window, FCP, etc. It still wouldn't read the tape. Then finally it recognized timecode and an image showed up, but I got big pink and green bars horizontally across the footage (and the tapes had been clean up until that point otherwise).
My first thought was a dirty deck, but I'm wondering if there could be something in FCP that could bring about these issues. I've had artifacting and image problems on tapes before, but I've never had a situation where FCP log and capture won't even read the timecode/display the image.
Or could the heads be "misaligned"? (ive heard that this can occur, not sure how it would happen on a stationary deck). I've run a cleaning tape through once or twice, but it hasn't resolved the issue.
Any thoughts on what this might be and what to do would be greatly appreciated.
