So, since everybody is showing their reels...

Awesome man! You've got a great variety of work in there and a ton of great shots.

My only crit would be that it's a bit too long, but the content is terrific.

love it julio! i would only recommend making a music edit to get to the end of the song and match that with suitable footage for a stronger end to the reel (as opposed to fading everything out).

Nice touches guys, will work on it after I finish the current job!

Yeah, now I watched it again, there's a lot of doc footage that could be reduced... Thinking back I put this up for a doc job I didn't get and gave too much importance to the docs... I have to cut it shorter now... hehe Goal: 2 minutes!

BTW That song is hard to edit, man! It ends completely crazy... But you're right, the end is quite abrupt... So 2 minutes better ending got it!

and thanks! boy you were fast!

Lots of simple shots in there but like the way you shoot them and keep your subjects interesting.

Even though the first shot of the old lady was well done, if this was sent to me instead of being posted on this forum, I doubt I would have watched the rest of it.

you forgot to include the constructive part of your criticism. care to suggest ideas for improvement?

I simply told him that I probably wouldn't have made it past the old lady removing her eye. That's just me, but if he's using it to get a job he might want to consider not starting off with that shot, there might be more employers out there like me.

I'm sorry I wasn't so presumptuous to tell him "how" to do his job.

there you go! a little context goes a long way. your original post says you liked the first shot and nothing else. but now julio will understand that it's quite the opposite. thanks for the explanation!

No worries gang... That's well, an art film I shot. I didn't write it nor direct it, and I have to say I don't really see a problem with it. But nice to know it can give people a wrong impression... The lady was finding it all very funny and we couldn't keep her from laughing, it was actually one of the lighter sets I ever worked on. Probably that memory malkes me forget about the fact the image is not so user-friendly...

Again, thanks for watching!

I liked this reel, some very good content, BUT WAIT was that a shot of Pelé !! if so did you actually meet him? damn man! :)

No man, lol, it isn't Pelé!

But he was telling a story about Pele. That was a small team stadium in São Paulo, pretty classic, where Pelé scored what is said to be the most beautiful goal of his career, a goal that wasn't shot on TV...

But funny story though, he was in my house one day, he was going to my neighbor's for a dinner party and knocked on the wrong door! Nice guy!

i like the "old kodak kodachrome camera with a light leak" look. Nostalgic. pretty. and the lady eating her glass eye was pretty awesome.

Good choice of music. That's one of my favorite Devo songs.

It was an interesting variety of content.

I think you have some nice imagery going on in there. Some of it is very eye catching. Some of it detracts from that, and looks dv'ish to me. For example, around 1:09 or so... that 3 second pan across the field can just go away. Cut it (in my opinion). You could also cut some of the audience stuff down.

The guy working on the car could go away. Nothing really in there to catch me, other than the very first shot of it, b/c the guy has an interesting look.

Cars driving down the road at around 1:40 could go away. and the one after that. Just go straight from the kid at the fountain, to the old people sitting, to the kid playing soccer (futbol).

I like that you are showing the interview stuff, but it would be nice to spread it out across the reel a bit, instead of just having it all lumped togethor as one segment.

The glass globes at 2:14 are beautiful. would like to see another couple of seconds of that shot.

Plane stuff might could go away.

Love the projector stuff. Love it. Basically the whole second half overall, is real nice to me.

Pick like 5 or 6 things (the projector stuff, etc) and mix them all togethor in as linear a way as possible. And throw in some of your more artsy shots in between to separate them. Trim out some of the 'fat' to make it shorter.

Just my opinion. Overall, I like it. Just get rid of some of those things like I mentioned and highlight some of the other stuff that is more visually compelling, or that shows off the different kinds of work you do.

Oh, and about the old lady. I kinda' like it (but I'm weird). Just not at the beginning. Save it for the end. Maybe fx it up a bit. Let there be a little rolling projector type thing starting to happen as she is putting it in her mouth, and then it can just roll on out to an empty film strip or something.

What did you shoot with?

Thanks for sharing.
Jason
