So I want to post for a producer position on my film (on Craig's list) and I learned that it is no longer $25. It's $75! What the F*$K happened!???

So my question is, when you guys post a job opening for your films, what do you use? Is there another site out there that reaches a lot of people, specifically for a producer position?

Help!

Chris

I was being sarcastic. What I was trying to get at was what's the difference between the two terms on craig's list? Why would someone pay $75 for a job posting when they could get it for free in the gig posting? There must be some benefit.

Craigslist needs to start charging. It may keep the "dreamers" who want people to work for free at bay.

Amen to that. I love the ads that list "possible credit in film, free food, a great time with girls" as compensation for our hard work. Its people like that who cheapen our value.

I've been looking over craigslist the past couple of days because I'm getting ready to start freelancing and ya know, the "gigs" section really doen't look all that great. I'm looking at the computer gigs, since that would make a good transition to video type projects (my regular job is as a web developer now). All these clowns want another myspace done for 100 bucks. Ridiculous.

Well we hire through craigslist in the Jobs section, because a 9 - 5 in Silicon valley isnt a gig.

jaded?

jaded?

That's the most ridiculous thing I've read in a while...

You can also try mandy.com I think you get one free job posting a month.

good luck.

My philosophy is "If you don't ask, the answer is already NO" ... so what's the harm in letting people know you're doing a short film production that's pro-bono, but you'll promise to feed them well?

There are all kinds of people that have solid talent, but are looking to expand their experience, build a resume, etc. I offer them that chance.

Those who aren't interested, simply don't respond. Problem solved. Not sure how this cheapens someone's value or should come across as insulting.

Because of Craigslist, I was able to have the benefit of getting a 20 year steadicam operator with nearly $125K in gear come out to film WHERE SILENCE FALLS (DVXuser DramaFest) for free, because he wanted to meet some new people, was bored & thought it sounded like fun. He had a great time, in fact, and wanted to work the next project with us. :)

I agree that when it comes to doing a short film, the money is simply not there sometimes so you have to find people that believe in your work and help you create that vision. For that, craigslist is good. However, many people see the compensation that you offer, or lack there of, and use that as a reference point when they decide what they want to pay someone, even on projects where the money is there. That is where it cheapens the value of the craft.

I concur. If there's a budget, pay. Or, to be more specific, if it's something that you feel you're going to be able to profit from (i.e. a feature film vs. short film), then go out & get a budget so that you can expect to pay folks. I would never ask folks to work for free if I was going to profit from it after the fact ... but that's me, and possibly not everyone's sentiment that posts on Craigslist.

I second Mandy.com, it is an awesome site where a lot of people go to look. You do only get one free posting a month, but, other than that all other postings are i think about 15 each, which is a great deal for the amount of responses you'll get.

Also a great place to find actors.
