Hey guys

I wanted to say hello and tell you about a new accessory I recently bought from a guy I found on Ebay. The company is called APEFOS and they are making 35mm adapters for the HVX and other cameras. I haven't received the adapter, yet, but I wanted to try to enlighten you all on the product and what it does and how it works.

I've had an HVX200p for a little while and I thought about trying out a 35mm adapter and this unit seemed like a good deal because it was priced at $290 US. Here's a link to an ebay listing, which is how I first found out about the adapter.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320095498007&sspagename=ADME:L:RTQ:US:1

I figured it was cheap enough that I'd give it a shot. I tracked the guy selling it down, Adriano, and from his website www.apefos.com you can email him and get a unit for $290.

I will list some pros as soon as I get the unit. I'll do another post in a bit with more detailed information on the product and how it works if anyone's interested.

Phil, from the shootout, introduced this on a thread on the "other" dv forum a while back. I wonder if he ever purchased one or got his hands on one for a test drive.

Anyways, would be nice to hear him chime in if he's found out anything.

Shipping was around $72 and it's been a pretty long process. I was supposed to have mine a while back but he decided to put my order on hold while he create 20 units to sell new customers in the future. That kind of sucked. He was supposed to ship it last Tuesday but it didn't really go out till this week for some reason. What's been frustrating is that I don't hear from him or it's clear my order doesn't matter as much as growing his business which when confronted he asks me to focus on the positive and not the negative. Ugh.

I'll look for the shootout thread. That would have been great before I purchased.

When I get my unit, if I do, I'll post pictures and let you guys know more. I have a picture of the unit now if you want to see it that he sent me via email. Take care guys.

To the powers that be, thanks for having such an awesome site/discussion forum.

Christian

From your discription the seller sounds like a jerk off. Maybe it's a good thing , and the guys' product is so good for the price that he can afford to blow you off after you made your' payment. In anycase, I know what it's like dealing with people who tell you to look at the possitive when they are f' in around with you. Maybe you can tell him after you get the product that word of his bad attitude is spreading.

Yeah, he replied back today saying he doesn't care if I'm not happy and if I tell other people because his new customers will love his adapter so much that it won't matter. I just want a decent product without the drama.

I guess we'll see if it was all worth it when I get this adapter, right.

Ya keep us tuned. That guy sounds so arogant we may just have a cool new product on our hands.

I finally got the adapter, today and the glass inside the unit is cracked/chipped. I'm not surprised. I'm more disappointed and depressed. I've sold so much equipment on ebay and craigslist over the years and bought my share of used equipment and new stuff but I'd never screw over someone like this.

I wrote Adriano but I probably won't hear for a few days, if that.

As an aside, paypal doesn't cover receiving a non-working or damaged item, by the way. Not $1 of your purchase. Escrow is really the best way to buy stuff from shady guys like this.

At the end of the day, I don't think this guy even cares if I'm unhappy or if anyone else is because no-budget indies are always on the make for a great deal/device and this is the flip side of the times it works out for us, I guess.

Let me know if you guys have any ideas what I can do with a broken adapter?

Send me a picture of the broken part. I will see it. If it is really broken you can ship the adapter back. after adapter arives here you will be refund. thanks

You said this:

"I wrote Adriano but I probably won't hear for a few days, if that."

This is not true. I am surprised you write this here before contact me. I did not receive this comunication from you. I did not receive any email from you untill now about the broken part. I am waiting the picture of broken part. I will not believe in a videoclip because just the picture of the broken part tells the true. If it is broken you will be refund after send adapter back.

Before you receive apefos you said you would open a thread because you was not happy waiting. I worked hard to acelerate your shipping. I am following the thread and now I am surprised you say apefos is broken here before contact me.

No problem, just send me the broken part picture and I will refund after you ship it back.

thanks.

Check your inbox. I got the unit around noon and wrote you shortly after. There's an email from me posted around 1:20 PM in your inbox.

You can say whatever you want, dude, but truth is you took payment, delayed production and shipping so you could produce other units to sell to new customers before mine (with my money), promised to ship on a specific date and then didn't do so for over a week, then you sent me a unit with a chipped lens (this was a scratch that happened in production, not in shipping since there was no glass in the bag and the item was bubblewrapped). Now, you want me to ship it back to you in Brasil. I feel kind of screwed over. You even admitted it in an email that you shouldn't have delayed my order and that you'll try to do business differently next time with other customers but at least make good and be honest.

I'm not trying to be a jerk but you know what, if someone had made this information available about you before I bought from you, I would have liked to of known this is what it's like to do business with you. If Redrock or PS ran their business like this, then, I'd want to know. And if they'd sent me a chipped adapter after a long delay, I'd probably post that on here, too.

He should have told you you need an achromat before selling and shipping the adapter. Do you even know how to attach one of those things?

apefos does not need achromat in many camcorders because it has a big area ground glass and many camcorders can frame it without achromat. HVX200 can frame, VX1000 can frame, etc. Until now the only one camcorder that needs achromat is HD100. you can attach it in the thread of apefos. in the ebay auction there was an explanation about it and all buyers could read it before bid.

After I put the post here Christian sent me an email. Here he called the problem "broken". After, in the email he called the problem just a chipped in the glass. So he needs to send me a photo of the problem or posts the photo here. I am waiting.

If there is an chipped in the glass we need to know if the chipped is inside the frame that camcorder will see. if the chipped is in the border or corner the camcorder will not see it. So we need to see the photo of the problem.

I cannot refund without see the photo.

I am trying to help about the problem, not dispute. If I see the photo and the photo shows a real problem I will refund.

thanks

Hey Adriano it's good you are trying to remedy the situation. I am also curious about your' product, and your' selling it out of the back of a van attitude. You could be correct in saying the chipped glass may not be visable, but at the same time you should warn the client before about a chip you allready know of. I don't know what kind of a world you think we live in up here, but it''s not ghetto attitude when it come to photography etc. You may as well be as straight up as possible with people here. If you are going to make anyone wait longer than you promised then take full responsibility for it. And try apologizing for the chipped adapter . If you are engineering a product, then act like an engineer, with respect. Christian is used to a certain etiquette when shopping online, and you should try and follow his lead. If I thought I was going to go through all these problems then I would not approach you, and definately warn people of what to expect. I know you think highly of yourself after selling 20 units, i would love to hear or contact anyone of those buyers if you felt confident enough to share with us the other apefos users. Maybe you can start a forum for apefos users to share information. That's what legitimate companys do.

I liked the look of some of the demo footage and obviously the price. I think I'll wait for plenty of good feedback though. With any diy product good service is a must. I'm sure that's a big reason for the success of the Brevis and the M2, for eg.

I hate to hear of these types of situations. It's loose loose all around. I hope you guys work it out. Sounds like a great price for a needed product.
But service is job one. Bad service can equate to a bad product.
