Intel Core 2 duo: New CPU's here as promised!

nice. i'm going to build my new editing machine within the next couple of months so i'm happy to see the core duos come down in price like this.

I'm also upgrading pretty soon. The 4300 looks nice. It overclocks to 3.47ghz, only .03 less than the 6300 over-clocked. Also excited about the 4mb of cache but I heard it isn't quite as good for encoding as predicted. Only around 2%-5% improvement variation among the codecs. However programs like Microsoft Excel improved by 27%.

And isn't this what we all wanted

But yeah, I'm just as giddy as now I can really sit down and build a new PC. I have been waiting for this price drop for a while now.

E4300 looks okay for the price. If you need the extra 40.00 to go somewhere else then sure. It also depends on what you're building it for.

I honestly wouldn't mind a non-native QX6700 but it's just so expensive for what it is. Having 2.66ghz without having to Overclock sounds nice.

Oh well. E6320 for me.

By the way, KILLFILM has a nice SLI ready PC for sale over in the Marketplace. QX6700 installed!

I'll be posting up my Core 2 PC build soon. Thinking about going ahead and slicing my wallet open tonight.

Just dual-core wise, can anybody recommend or tell me what package they are looking into? This is my first custom comp. and I just want to make the right decision. I'm definitely going to overclock safely what ever I get. I also like the 4300 because I don't need the faster RAM to have maximum performance.

Do most motherboards really not come with firewire anymore?

They do, you just have to know what you're looking for pretty much. Either way, you can get a PCI Firewire controller for like 15.00 at Frys. I decided to order one with 1394b and a.

I managed to pull down just about every single thing I need in a PC for about 1500 after tax + shipping from NewEgg.com.

The only thing I don't have is a bounty of much-needed storage will will come later on.

By the by: NewEgg has Lacie 2tb Externals for under 700.00. O_O

the 6600 is $40 more for .27 ghz increase over the 6420.
the 6700 is $100 more for a .27 increase over the 6600.
seems like the 6600 is in the sweetspot for price/performance.

Depends on if you know anything about overclocking. :DDDD An overclocked E6300 (done right) will destroy the more expensive Core 2's. I suspect the E6320's performance should be the same when OC'd to about 3.20ghz.

Yeah... that's right I said it: 3.20ghz on the E6320.

likewise, an overclocked 6600 would beat an overclocked 6320.

It's too bad E6600's aren't as successful as the E6300 series CPUs.

Great source of info on Intel chips. <33 Penryn is coming.

Geez, seems like you guys are car buffs talking about cars, there! "Your modified Suzuki Swift 1.3 GTi can't beat my modified Suzuki 1.6 GTI! " "But the Swift 1.3 is a lot more succesful than the 1.6..." :)

Sorry, just felt like sharing this image that came to me right now.

Back to topic- Will this in any way influence Mac Pro pricing?

LoL. Sorry. I only get like this when it's time for a PC upgrade, then it goes away when I have it and I can focus on other things.

It's probably going to have like zero effect on Apple hardware pricing. The Macbook Pros and iMac's have Core 2 Duo's, but they're the T series LAPTOP Core 2's. I think there's supposed to be a motherboard update sometime this year but who knows.

In all honesty, the Mac Pricing isn't HORRIBLE. I personally think the hardware is too outdate for such a price tag. That's just a personal preference though.

lol. kholi knows i'm right, he just doesn't want to admit it.

Put your benchmark where your mustache be. =D

Dunno about you, but a stable cool-running overclock on a 180.00 Chip that's sitting on the same Ghz Speed as it's higher end brethren sounds like the perfect medium.

you name the benchmark and we'll square off. the real question is, are you you man enough to challenge my amd barton 2500?
