Lectrosonic - experience with SM/SMD/SMQ?

hello.

i am getting ready to order another set of lectrosonic wireless and i'm definitely getting another of the 401 receivers and i really want to get one of the SM* series transmitters this time...

before when i got lectro's the SMD and such hadn't come out so i got the regular UM 400 transmitter which works great but i'm tempted to get an SM or SMD

has anyone got any firsthand experience with any of the SM* series at all?

or should i save my money and get another UM 400 transmitter?

there is no real benefit working with smd if you dont need long running time and extar small tx .it doesnt sound better then um .
keep the money , buy better lunch ;-)

I'm a big fan of the SM tx. I have the SM, not smd. sonicaly, no real difference(although my lavs are wired for hybrid, not SM exclusive. maybe sounds better that way). I find them easier to hide. can fit in pant pockets no problem. in fact, i stuffed the tx in the front pocket of a police uniform and hid the mic under the pocket flap. couldn't tell it was there. with lithium AA lasts 6-7 hrs. with my 2500 rechargeables, lasts 4-5 hrs. also love the free mp3 and .wav to lock/ unlock/ sleep/ unsleep tx. convenient for when tx is buried deep in clothing

drawbacks: the tx will get rather warm. cant wrap lav excess around belt clip easily. costs a bit more. need lavs wired for them( can be hybrid to work with other lectros). pain in the ass sometimes to operate if you got clumsy ape knuckles( sorry if any poo flinging monkey mixers are offended) :-HeadPhones(D

the um tx without the belt clip is not much bigger , it take 10 seconds take it out and about 20 minutes put it back :-)

thanks for the feedback.

here is something interesting that i never heard before, it didn't show up in any of the product info or pre-purchase literature or research that i did...

it comes from page #5 (first page after the tables of contents)

in the lectrosonic sm* series manual - http://www.lectrosonics.com/manuals/SM_Seriesman.pdf

could someone explain the wiring difference for sm* only vs. hybrid?

"Servo Input
The SM input is a radically different input system compared
to previous Lectrosonics transmitter microphone
inputs. It is so superior that this input system will eventually
be utilized by all Lectrosonics UHF transmitters. The
improvements are audible and make the transmitters
easier to use and much harder to overload. It is no
longer necessary on some mics to introduce pads to
prevent overload of the input stage, divide the bias
voltage down for some low voltage mics, or reduce the
limiter range at minimum gain settings."
