How is that ultra sharp high contrast look achieved? Through filters, or after-the-fact digital manipulation? I see it loads of times, especially on b/w photos but I can't get a similar effect in-camera without editing...

that is achieved through dodging and burning through Photoshop. ;)

Great pics! I must say some of them look really really surreal, and while i recognise most of the locations, they don't look like they were shot in singapore

Are you shooting b/w in camera or desaturating things in Photoshop?

I converted them to B&W in Photoshop, using Gradient Map. Heh

Really nice

Really nice

I was in Singapore almost three weeks ago, and I have to say I was impressed with all the malls they have. Your pictures look really nice; I took a few rolls of my own with my Canon AE-1 Program 35MM, but I was not there long enough to develop the rolls I took. I wish I could have been there longer; I got some great shots at the Clarke Quay and the new temple they are raising in Chinatown. I like the aftertouch effects on the shots, done in photoshop I presume. Very nice mate. When the computers on the ship (yes, I am in the Navyin the middle of the ocean right now) are not being slow and dumb, I can upload some pictures I took in Guam that came out really nice. Some with an underwater camera, and some with my Canon, using a 28mm Macro lens and 400 ISO film. Look for those in the near future.

It's a shame that you couldn't stay longer, because there are so many other quaint and bohemian parts of Singapore besides the shopping malls, but I guess deployment is a deployment.

I do know we had the Bonhomme Richard and her sister ships in port around that time, before IMDEX, as I was at IMDEX as a media personnel.

Anyway, will look forward to your photos of Singapore, and thanks for stopping by at my photo thread.

Cheers and good sailing. :)
