Grindhouse to split into 2 seperate releases

I think a couple things went wrong here...

a). 70's b movies didn't cost much!
b). the intention was good, two movies for the price of one but they weren't supposed to run for as long as they turned out, were they? Wasn't the plan to have 60min shows or something? A lot of people will just look at the running time, sigh and wait for the dvd (and this will sell tonnes on dvd).

If Grindhouse ends up losing money it is still a good thing, the film industry needs to start doing things like this again. All we get is sure fire bets that will make its money back and milk the customers with a crappy product. We need more risky films and we need more of the "big boys" to take risks on films like these.

These guys didn't take any risks at all. They are both extremely rich and can basically do anything that they want to do with no fear whatsoever of not being paid. They made their money up front and unless they were heavy investors (which I doubt) had nothing other than reputations on the line. And when you stop to think about it, especially with their past history, they could shoot a cat taking a crap and people would pay to see it.
I don't know about you, but if I was one of the "big boys" I would still want return on my investment.

the weinsteins are furious. MS they are trying to get their new company up and running good and they have money set backs when a movie completely bombs when it shouldn't it seems. I think they get mad easily...
