DPA microphones - any good?

Just got back from NAB where I was looking at microphones. I'm shooting a doc and looking for miniature mics that I can hide. Checked out Countryman mics and a company called DPA- looked at one of their mics called the 4071 - does anyone know anything about DPA mics, quality, durability, etc.

thanks,

Sharky

one of the best sounding mics - not eacy to hide , but defenetly sounds better then b-6
4071 , 40 61 and 40 63

DPA (used to be Brüel & Kjaer, they still make scientific acoustic measurement instruments) is The Quality Microphone maker, but better known in (classical) recording business than film/video.

I haven't used their lav' mics, but their 4003 (130V omni) is an excellent mic, with an almost unnaturally low self-noise. Their 8011 hydrophone is by far the best product of its kind on the market today.

If memory serves, DPA lav capsules are used as the mic elements in the Holophone 7.1 surround recording systems.

I've use the DPA 4071 - I believe, and yes it's an amazing mic. And if memory serves, it's not that much money.

One question, though, - does the transmitter make a difference? I've used both the lectrosonics, and the evolution 100 and 200.

What do your ears tell you?

Thanks,
Milt
