New Final Cut Studio 2: I just died

I jumped for joy when I saw Color... I was hoping the upgrade price would be lower, but looking at the feature-set I think it is totally worth it.

Any word on the new tapeless import tool? Is this going to be a new way of importing p2 footage without a view, maybe it will be possible to have fcs2 running when importing footage, since they are still supporting g4 cpus.

I'll ask again: does Final Cut studio 2 fully support the Sony V1's 24p modes for editing in a 24p timeline?

Check out the detailed FCS2 list above (via Mike Curtis) and then scan the FCS2 areas on Apple's web site. If you don't see it listed anywhere there, then either (1) no, or (2) it wasn't big enough to warrant being listed now so you'll need to have some patience and wait until more detailed articles about FCS2 come out in the trade rags.

cheers.

I have a question about Apple's new ProRes 422 codec, is it meant to be used for offline editing - recapturing your HD footage at full res once you have finished? Or is it for use instead of the full res HD footage?

Also, the AJA Iohd had a HDMI input. Would I be better off capturing footage (HDV from a Canon XH-A1) via the HDMI input or via firewire? Is there even a difference?

Thanks!

I'm most excited about Soundtracks Pros new enhancements. As a "transfer" from Vegas, I was spoiled and sorely missing enhanced audio tools. Even simple things like waveform editing without a separate window and better fade control make me happier.

I'll wait to see if it will actually be the audio editor for me or if I need to jump and get a separate program.

At NAB I sat through their presentations on FCP, Motion 3, Soundtrack Pro 2 and Color. I've gotta say that Soundtrack Pro 2 has grown exponentially with this release. I can't wait to use it for sound design. Two days later and I'm still drooling about Color. Infuckingcredible!

Blaine -
thanks for the info on STP2. Looking forward to finding out more. Yeah, and Color is indeed an interesting inclusion.

Apple showed ProRes in a splt screen with uncompressed 10bit footage. I couldn't see the difference. THEN the presenter said,"oh, by the way, that ProRes 422 footage was 10th GENERATION!"

AS far as digitizing through the hdmi froma XH-a1, I was led to believe that that would probably be the best route for HDV.

Heres more informaton on the codec:

I just want to get my hands on FCS2 so I can play with ProRes footage in Magic Bullet!!!
With what's being offered in Color, you may not even use Magic Bullet.

Gotta agree with that.

The way Color (aka Final Touch) is intregrated into FCS2, I don't think I'd ever used MB again.

It renders faster too.

The secondary CC with bezier masking and feathering reminded me a LOT of the kind of stuff I was using to doing in a Smoke suite.

The revolution is nearly complete.

These tools are going to make the possibility to compete with much bigger players easier and more reachable. I expect the industry is at a very visible crossroad.

HD is real - editing it is really possible and the tools are no longer struggling to catch up.
I am so excited about getting my box of FCP ST 2 and taking it for a test drive!

Christmas just came early!

I equally died on reading about the new FCS2. I then died again when I noticed the Apple Store UK is selling it for $400 more than it costs in the U.S. It would officially cost me less to fly to NY and buy it.

Is there anything different about a U.S. version that would make it impossible for me to get a friend to parcel me over a copy? Would there be any problems with the registration/serial number to have a version bought in the States in England?

Thanks in advance.

Motion 3 is embracing 3D!!!!

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!! I died and went to post processing heaven."

Can your relatives send me your upgrade since you won't be needing it...

Sorry I couldn't help myself Kholi

Didn't read the thread all the way through... so hopefully I'm not copying anyone...

But I agree with you COLOR is worth the upgrade alone... and Sound Track is slowly becoming what I hoped it would be come a poor man's Pro Tools...

And just kidding about the above... us former OC natives got to stick together...

This is one of those upgrades where I wish that Apple did sell the individual applications separately. The only upgrade I'm really excited about is for Motion. Having 3D support means that I won't have to invest into After Effects, at least for now.

I feel that as a laptop user, I'll get screwed hardcore by this update performance wise. No doubt I won't be able to use Color much, from the looks of it, it requires a very hefty machine.

So yeah... meh. :(
