Dell or Apple Monitors for Mac Pro

I have searched the forum and read some reviews, and I want to know if anyone likes the new Dell 22" monitors.

I am getting a Mac Pro once Apple upgrades the systems and the Apple monitors really are expensive. Are they that much more accurate than the dells?

Thanks for the reply. My parents own a Dell machine with a 24" and I checked it out and do like it a lot. I love my Powerbook G4 Display though, but for a $500 difference, I think I would be better to put it into the Mac Pro.

I have a Apple 30" and I have been in front of the Dell monitor, all technical specs aside, the Apple looks much nicer and completes the feel of owning a mac. Now, I can't see much difference between the two as far as quality but they are fairly close and with proper calibration you should be ok with either one. Then again you should use a color braodcast/reference monitor to judge true color of video.

Go with the Apple its worth it.

The dell 24 does not in fact blow the apple monitors away.

They are the same monitor... though the dell has some vignetting around each corner where the backlight spills through when the screen is full black. The colour on the apple monitor is far better IMO.

and despite my best efforts I could not matche the dell to my apple display or vice versa..

The presets apple has setup just make for a richer appearance..

but in reality.. each monitor is the same... just the apple monitor sans the extra hookups..

The apple monitor is prettier... (if you care.. I do..) and a lot more stable ironically..

both are great monitors.. but the apple one just has much better construction.. it doesn't feel like a fischer price toy.

peas.

After pouring through a lot of reviews, I ordered two 24" Dell monitors yesterday. They both appear to be solid choices and from what I've seen of both of them you can't go wrong either way.

I chose Dell because Apple's 23" monitors don't offer anything, IMO, that would warrant my paying about $600 more for the two monitors combined. Also, with Dell you get a three year warranty whereas Apple has only a one year. To get a three year warranty with Apple I would have had to pay an additional $200 total.

Apple's monitors might have a slightly better picture, better cosmetics and construction but at the end of the day it's not going to result in a better quality video for the customers who I'll be making videos for. That job is for a broadcast reference monitor that I can put my $600 savings toward.

Anyway, just my 2 cents in regards to the choice I made with my own Apple vs. Dell dilemma.

I own a Dell 2405 24" that I bought in March 06 and it's worked great with my Mac. No complaints. The new 24" are even better. I think the monitor I have is a 13ms refresh and the new ones are 5ms. But don't quote me on that. Plus, the built in all-in-one flash card reader and USB ports rock.
