The MXO isn't really new. Been around for a while.

Yes...I have used it. The MXO, in combination with an Apple 23" Cinema Display will get you broadcast quality monitoring. Yes...BROADCAST QUALITY monitoring. I tested it next to my HD CRT and they matched. I had to calibrate the Apple, but after that...perfect match.

Shane,

How did you go about calibrating your 23" Apple display? I understand Matrox provides display profiles (which may not be that accurate) but no calibration tool. In another thread, the eye-one 2 was mentioned--is that the way you went? I am considering the MXO/23" ACD for monitoring HVX footage, and am trying to figure everything I would need to go that route.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have the MXO, a MBP 15", ACD 23" and a Panasonic LT-BH1700 HD LCD. It helps to have a good reference monitor connected to the SDI or component output of the MXO (as Shane mentioned) to give yourself a reference to set your ACD (or other LCD) to.

I found the colors to be fine what I had to find was a custom gamma level for the ACD to get everything close. Once you're set up though the ACD is perfectly workable. The kicker for me is being able to see my HD video at full uncompressed SDI out of the MBP on a true broadcast monitor. The MXO provides that link.

BTW if you have a good eye for bars you could probably get close just eyeballing it, it's 98% there IMHO.

The boys at matrox tell me they will be adding color bar setup functionality to a future software release, that will be the frosting on the cake.

MXO with Dell?

MXO with Dell?

Hey boys,

Anybody have some insight on working with the MXO and a Dell lCD (be it 2405 or 2407). I have a 2407 and am really thinking of getting the MXO for HVX etc. monitoring, but am wondering if I need to pony up for an ACD. I don't necessarily need broadcast quality, but would like to know what I would be losing (if anything) using a Dell for these purposes.

Thanks,

G

Well, the new version of the drivers, 2.0, will be demo'd at NAB. They allow for calibrating the monitor to bars, so perhaps the Dell will be an option. I have one, and I will DEFINATELY be testing it.

Look out for it on my blog...www.lfhd.net

Thanks, Shane. So the new firmware will be available to everyone who has already bought, right? So I could go ahead and buy one now and just use the SD out until this gets figured out. Anybody have a recommendation on where to buy for best price/service etc.?
