What are some good places to practice filming without looking like a wierdo?

But you have to buy a ticket to get in and though would cost what, 50 bucks?

$65 for one park
$85 for two (One Day Park Hopper)
Although they currently have the 2fer ticket going on.

Unless you have an AP... (Annual Pass)
Which would be...
Premium - $359
Deluxe - $239
Socal - $154
Socal Select - $124

Of course there's all the add on stroller and parking variations.

Its fun there during the off season cuz they're like filming on every corner of the park. Huge jibs everywhere. I saw 2 last week. Nothing like a Big Ole Pair O' Jibs!!

He wants cheap and easy.

Words to live by. You can volunteer to do stuff like for church or local theatre or something.

It was his horrorfest entry when his little brother chases after the ball and winds up going into some black hole or wormhole which led him into a different dimensions... or something...

... I know that. I'm talking about a hollywood movie.

most people are interested in filmmakers, and glad to help you out. So dontworry tomuch. just be friendly and polite. i ran in to a buncha cops while shooting footage of the Brooklyn Bridge. They asked me what i was doing who i was shooting for... etc. i had a permit, but they didint even ask to see it. they jsut looked at me and figured i was kosher enough.

I found this to be the case too. When I was rehearsing for HeroFest last year, we went to a public park area where we would be filming and proceeded to work on the choreography of the hostage situation and the subsequent fight. After a while the police helicopter passed over head. Then circled around again, then again, then again. Finally I realized there was trouble, so I looked across the park and saw a police cruiser parked nearby and a couple cops walking along talking to people in the park.

I took it upon myself to approach the cops and asked if I could help them. They said there was a report of some teenagers getting ready to riot. Well, we were at one end of a soccer field and there were about 4 or 5 teenagers at the other end just walking around. And it was VERY obvious we were not getting ready to fight as I was standing holding a video camera pointed at our group. And the actors were throwing SUPER SLO MOTION punches and take downs, then me saying, Stop, try that again, but do this instead, etc, etc.

Anyway, I told the cops we were shooting a short film. They laughed and said, "Oh, some kung fu film?" I told them what it was they said to have fun, got in their car and drove away.

So, take that camera out and start shooting everything you see. As long as you don't intend to sell the "film" you make it doesn't matter what you film. If anyone hassles you, act like a tourist ;)

Go out shooting with a girl holding a clipboard. You can get almost anything you want without that many questions being asked. Works for me all the time but when they do ask, we just say we are testing a new lens or camera.

This. Seriously, you can get away with anything. I showed up in a park to film some pigeons and my girlfriend walked around talking to people then offloaded some footage for me and nobody gave us a second look. Having a female around is a very disarming thing for most people, they normally figure you must be an alright guy and leave you alone.

Who cares what you look like?

Just shoot everything. If someone flips out, then fight them. Bring a sock full of nickels.

Seriously. Who cares. Just shoot. People who flip out over video cameras are morons.

This is sort of what I have been wondering since the thread opened.

If we spent time worrying about how stoopid we might look, doing whatever it is that we do, we'd get a lot less of it done.

If you are in the Los Angeles area, the top levels of the parking structure for The Grove offer some very nice panoramic views of the city.

I've always wanted to see beautiful downtown Burbank, ever since I heard Gary Eubanks mention it on the Smothers Brothers or Laugh In, I'm not sure which.

A very revealing comment as to your age. As is mine for recognizing it.
