First of all i hve to thank the person whose idea it was to creat a kind of forum like this. It has really been elpful to me and I must commend all your effort.
At the same time, I would like someone to help me with ideas. I am a film producer in Africa, but the truth and the big problem is that ever since the history of African movie Production, the challenge of getting movie qaulity like that obtainable from Hollywood has been a very big puzzle. I have wondered if this probs are merely atmopheric diffences or camera....but I believe you can help me with ideas. What should I do to have a smooth and richly coloured picture quality. I edit with adobe primiere 6.5 and pro 7.0

Thankx

OK, its a huge topic that you have just asked.

However if you was asking about getting images that look like 35mm Film, then frankly you have to shoot on 35mm.

Now if you are asking how you can "emulate" 35mm then this is possible to a certain extent.

But before all that you need to ask your self this:

What is the final desination of the image?

is it
(a) Big screen (Cinema) ? /High Defination TV? or
(b) small screen? (normal TV)
(c) Web (Internet)

Now depending on what your final target is, your tools and workflow will be different.

So more detailed information about what you actually want to do is needed before any detailed answer can be given.

1) zoom all the way out to get shallowest depth of field your camera will give you

2) in post, Adobe Ppro or AE (better) crunch your blacks and whites with curves or

3) duplicate your picture layers and apply Overlay blend to the top one which will change color quality from:
cu_bg_blurred.jpg
to:
cu_final.jpg

4) depending on your raw footage quality, you could also add an adjustment layer and apply grain to it.

5) spend top dollar on good mic :)
