Hey guys. I was just wondering, what are some good books to read these days. Not the books about lighting and directing and scriptwriting but a good story. My imagination tank is runnin low these days and I have to read some good stories to get the juices goin again...

I just went to the Bardavon to see David Sedaris read. He is a fantastic humorist and a great writer to boot. So, depending on what you are looking for, he might be a good choice. He is funny, a great writer and can really put together a good, funny story about a large American family just trying to find their bearings....

Mamet just released a new book on the industry in Hollywood, it's pretty awesome. He signed it for me, so it's even cooler :)

Check it out, it's called 'Bambi VS. Godzilla.'

A Walk in the Woods - Bill Bryson

I'm a Stranger Here Myself - Bill Bryson

The Lost Continent - Bill Bryson

He writes about today's America in a way that's both trenchantly observant and incredibly funny.

Basically any Bryson book, I consider a great read.

I'm going back to some Murakami. I read a bunch years ago, but recently some friends reading him got me back into him. He's great.

I was reading Updike at that age with similar results. Portnoy's is one of my favorite books. I love first person when it is humorous and depraved. Nabokov's Lolita is similar in that way. Also check out The Human Stain, and American Pastoral by Roth. the guy's brilliant.
