iTunes rant

Just a pet peeve i've gotta get off my chest.

Does anyone else hate the fact that iTunes has an udpate every other day, and instead of patches you have to download the entire application? It's downright comical. I swear to god it seems like there's new version before/ by the time I've finished downloading the current one. They're getting worse than MS with security patches on patches to fix the patches that broke the patches on the patches. /rant off

software update ftw

Well yeah, I do use software update, but the update installs the whole app. The joke is that half the time I launch the app I get news of an update. It's like russian roulette everytime I launch it I wince.

wierd, im happy everytime i see an update. Seems like something wierd to be bothered by. Doesnt take any physical exertion to do. Relax a bit. Only live once.

Its just a peeve, I'm not head banging or anything. It just seems like if they spent half the energy the spend updating itunes on Aperture or FCP the world would be a better place.

The simple solution is to avoid using iTunes and it's DRM-filled nonsense. If you are unlucky enough to have an iPod, there are other ways of syncing it with your computer.

tony, that's true but those programs have their own problems. and they're not as well supported. But I agree with Ming, having to download the entire program for a single mini-update is just stupid. In this day and age, especially with a company like apple who's raking in all the money and whose identity for 20 years now has been "SIMPLICITY", you should be able to press a button and it updates in the background. It's not like this technology isn't out there. Another problem is you don't even know why you're updating. My hatred of itunes comes from their silly e-mail only customer support. So dumb.

i know you're being sarcastic but man, when I bought an album and it never downloaded and they still charged my credit card, I had a pretty heated e-mail exchange with their "customer support". The only good thing I can say about it is they haven't outsourced their customer support to Pakistan yet (like everybody else has done). YET. If I have another customer support e-mail exchange that starts...

"Hi____Chris*. I am very very sorry for your impersonal problem. I cann understand your appreciation [they of course mean: "frustration"] and am fullly in agreement with your problematic inquistion. Let me try to help you with this problem (20 more retarded lines later). You need to uninstall [said program] and then reinstall it. If you are still having problems, I would be most happy to inquire about your reply."

I hate to break it to you but there are tech agents for apple in India. Also most outsourcing is in india not asia which is where pakistan is.

i'm no apple fanboy, but i've never had a problem with their customer service. once, i had an album that didn't download from the itunes store. one email later, my account was credited and I repurchased it. i had a friend who had a similar experience to c.g. but he had a history of "mistaken" puschases and refund requests and they were skeptical of his claims.

i suppose its entirely possible that they could see in their records that I've spent $50,000 on powermacs, macbook pro, final cut studio, xserve raids, etc...

I dont think thats just apple, when you drop that much cash at any store they will treat you like royalty. :-P

I'm pretty sure both Pakistan and India are in Asia. But either way, it's disappointing to see apple go that route. It's not that I have any problems with Indians or Pakistanis, but it'd sure be nice if the people who are helping you with your complicated computer problems spoke your language natively. Then again, they save more money so why wouldn't they go with the outsourced tech support!

Yeah it is I don't know what I was thinking at the time.i gotta remember not to post at 1am :-) I can't remember how many time I had to fix an agent that was in India's mess with a customer. Apple has a tier 1 phone support and a tier 2. Only some of the tier 1 agents are actually outsourced. Of course they also might have changed that since I left. The higher level or Tier 2 agents are never outsourced out the country. Because of that when I worked there all the tier 1 agents that had problem would escalate to tier 2 and that how I would get so many calls from people that where upset due to the language barrier.

Now on the other side i've had customers that were just rude to the agents because they didn't like the fact that they were in another country even though the agent was trying his/her best to help them.
