Final cut/registration/selling question

I am selling my suit and I get a lot of questions about registration and such. I've registered the program, if I want to sell it...what do I have to do?

It looks to me like you can transfer your user license (once) but you will have to go through apple to do it.
You can find the answer to your question here

http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/finalcutpro.htm

Below is some useful info I copied from that site.

1. General. The software, documentation and any fonts accompanying this License whether on disk, in read only memory, on any other media or in any other form (collectively the “Apple Software”) are licensed, not sold, to you by Apple Computer, Inc. (”Apple”) for use only under the terms of this License, and Apple reserves all rights not expressly granted to you. The rights granted herein are limited to Apple’s and its licensors’ intellectual property rights in the Apple Software and do not include any other patents or intellectual property rights. You own the media on which the Apple Software is recorded but Apple and/or Apple’s licensor(s) retain ownership of the Apple Software itself. The terms of this License will govern any software upgrades provided by Apple that replace and/or supplement the original Apple Software product, unless such upgrade is accompanied by a separate license in which case the terms of that license will govern.

3. Transfer. You may not rent, lease, lend or sublicense the Apple Software. You may, however, make a one-time permanent transfer of all of your license rights to the Apple Software to another party, provided that: (a) the transfer must include all of the Apple Software, including all its component parts, original media, printed materials and this License; (b) you do not retain any copies of the Apple Software, full or partial, including copies stored on a computer or other storage device; and (c) the party receiving the Apple Software reads and agrees to accept the terms and conditions of this License. All components of the Apple Software are provided as part of a bundle and may not be separated from the bundle and distributed as standalone applications.

Sell the software in original box with books and all (anything other is technically an illegal sale, common on eBay), the new user can log into Apple and register it with their name, poof, they now are the registered owner. Simple as that.

Question? How does apple actually know all of those things have been aquired by the buyer if they can just log in and re-register it?

It's an honor system. There is no physical way for them to force you to prove anything. How do they know you legally bought the package in the first place when you register? How do they know if you're registering for the fourth time on new Macs you just bought, or are putting it on 4 Macs at once?

This is very much standard industry practice. They trust you're being honest, and have no physical way to check up on you, unless someone contacts them and rats you out. Then, if it's worth the money and time invovlded, they'll come after you.

It's the same for most software apps on the market.

But this should serve as warning to those buying used copies on eBay, be sure you have the original disks, with the original books, in the original box! There are NFR (not for resale) copies that you can NOT legally sell off once you're done with it under any condition. But how does Apple know? They don't, they can't, it's an honor system. But if you want to pay a few hundred to someone for an NFR they got for free (NFR means even the original owner never paid for it), then by all means, go ahead and allow youself to be ripped off.

Yeah, all those years of working for software companies, you tend to pick up a few pieces of trivia...
