Is there anyone out there who can make one of these? I'm planning on buying an hvx camera package with the brevis35, it would be very nice to have one of these too...

I tried contacting the guy, but haven't got a response. I know he just released the second version of these units, but it's especially made for the M2 that mounts directly on top of the M2... I would need a unit that could mount to the top of the camera. Here's his newest version:

LCD screens are easy to flip, but this is a great solution for handheld shots, even for tripod shots, it doesn't weigh that much at all... I wonder if Dennis from Cinevate knows about this or knows how to build these?

It's just an LCd inside these things, should be pretty easy to flip; don't no why they need to use mirrors and all that.

This is the thing with the product. A flipped image is great, especially without having to worry about batteries, the extra weight, etc.. If you have the slightest vision problem or if you just like starring at a 2.5/3.5 LCD, it is very tiring and hard to see if your subjects in focus or not. There's a hack somewhere around here that will allow this on the DVX100b. :) Great idea though

I can't find it at the moment, but someone did this to an A1 recently. I don't think he had the flipping in there though, just liked the high res viewfinder.

True.. But if you flip camera at rod-support already.. you don't need to make any change inside viewfinder.. and you don't need to flip pic in post..

..but of course non of solution is 100%; there are always another disadvantages..

Building on of these is pretty easy. I've done it last year.
Here are some pics I've posted at the cinevate forum.

All you need is a 12V power supply, the right connectors and a small box.
I've bought cheap 12V lithium batteries from hong kong. I think, Dennis is releasing a 12V solution soon.
Flipping the picture tube of the viewfinder is easy.
The hardest part probably is, finding the right connector.
The newer 16:9 VF have special plugs. My old 4:3 Sony DXF-501 has a standard DIN Plug. Something like this (don't know if it's type 8 or 9 at the moment):
http://www1.conrad.de/scripts/wgate/zcop_b2c/?~template=pcat_product_details_document&object_guid=851B6E3BABD18552E10000000A010220&master_guid=&master_typ=&no_brotkrumennavi=&ownrow=45&p_load_area=0223120&p_artikelbilder_mode=Ein&p_sortopt=object_description&page=3&p_catalog_max_results=10&cachedetail=

Take a newer VF if possible. They are 16:9 and peaking is better.

MatzeB,
What kind of input are you getting to that VF. is it just composite from the camera or is it component???

no component - it's a Black&White Viewfinder.
I can use composite or s-video.
Normally I use the s-video plug. I've soldered the
luminance channel only - so there's no
resolution loss because of the chromatic signal.

MatzeB would something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/SONY-DXF-601-Viewfinder-DXC_W0QQitemZ260102088637QQcategoryZ107938QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
be adaptable to use with the panasonic outputs? Also the link you posted above for the viewfinder you're using seems to be down.
yep - looks good.But I think the 601 is 4:3 only, too.
the price is okay - don't pay much more for it.

here you can find the connector (in europe):
www.conrad.com
and search for item number 737283 or 738182
I don't know which of this two it is at the moment .
I have to check my VF at the weekend.
Maybe I can take some pics of the box and post it here...

don't laugh :)- the box is a little bit quick and dirty, but it works good. I've bought all parts
at http://www.conrad.com for less than 10$.
Search for "12V Lithium" on ebay to find the batteries.
The hardest part is to solder the wires to the right pins...
Flipping the picture-tube of the viewfinder is complete reversible -
if you want to sell it one day.

yep that's not so easy - I have only the plan for the Sony DXF-501.
I've gotten it from Saru here at the forum. I don't know your camera,
but it's certainly a different connector. How does it look like?
Can you post a picture?
First you can try asking the panasonic business service or a
professional service center. Maybe they can sell you a spare part connector..?
http://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/support/contact_info.asp
or you buy the service manual online. Maybe here: http://www.user-manuals.com

Basically all you need are 4 Pins:
+12V
-12V (ground)
+Video (luminance signal)
-Video (ground)

Try wikipedia for infos on s-video or rca jack pins.
