black white and exclusive color

does anyone know if vegas can do that thing where the video is black and white but one person or several objects are in color? would one use masks or what?

my guess is that you layer two clips of the same thing, the one under being in black and white. then, on the top clip, you isolate one color thru blending options of the video track then somehow mask just that object so that others of the same color don't show up in color.

i'm gonna try to mess with it but i'm sure that some one was interested in that question and would benefit from some sort of walk-thru if one of you has achieved effect.
 
yep yep, secondary color corrector. i checked select effect range and picked my color with the dropper. then i unchecked the saturation limit. then messed with the hue limit.
 
I'm trying to do this with my footage. How exactly do you do it? I've tried several times, but can't seem to get the effect.
 
You choose the color with the "select effect range" eyedropper -- you can make a rectangle with it if you hold the button down.

Then, click "invert effect" and then lower the saturation slider to 0.
