Will DVX100 prices drop when Canon HV20 is released?

The HV20 is set to be released on April 15th in little over 2 weeks from now. It will have HD + 24p. I think the price of all DVX100s will drop once footage is released on these things. They will cost around $1099 originally but will probably move below $999 around Christmas.

Everybody will be owning one and youtube will be flooded with 24p "director" films.

This has to, and I am just speaking logically, has to drop the value of the DVX. If not immediately, some time this year they should be fairly cheap new. This will then push down the used DVX market. I wouldn't be surprised if people start winning indie film awards with this little piece of equipment.

I know people say that HD is worthless unless you have an HD monitor...but I would have to say watch this video of the Canon HV10 without 24p and imagine it WITH 24p. It's going to be crazy.

Thoughts on all of this?

This will be the biggest push on HD ever. You thought directors were scrambling to shoot HD now, after this is released everyone will be forced to shoot HD. Clients will say my nephew shoots HD, how come you can't! LOL

If anyone is buying a camera to end up with footage on youtube, you really, really don't need a HD camera, the compression on youtube is so bad, that just about any SD camera (maybe even a webcam) is good enough for the task, the quality is just really really that bad.

Why the quotation marks? many of those people on youtube have much more talent that some people on this forums who shoot with all their expensive equipment and who have won awards on those short film competitions.

there are other threads on this camera. some members already own an hv20 and have shot and posted footage. mine should arrive no later than April 6th.

Please don't start thread titles as if they're fact. It's misleading. I'm changing your title to reflect that..

Native 24p is certainly a nice feature, but it seems like the major factor preventing this camera from being taken seriously by professionals is that it's not 3 ccd.

color looks great on the HV20 footage with just 1 CMOS. but if you want more color just add it on post and save $3,000

With that logic I suppose you could just uprez it to HD in post as well and save yourself another $600.

The artifacts are going to look really nice.....

The colour might look lovely, but wait until you have a contrasty shot, with sharp edges. Something like a mesh, or the edge of a blade - you'll see why 3 chip units are better.

Single chip units are notoriously bad for edge artifacts.
