Need new Tripod have 2000 dollars to spend

Hey guys

I’m currently planning to purchase and spend about 2k so I never feel I have to invest in a tripod again.

My camera weight is about 5-15 LB.
Need a nice fluid head.

I can’t wait to hear from some of you on what I should be looking at.

manfrotto is always good. I just got a new tripod, i cant remember the model, but the head i have is the 501HDV. Its a nice fluid head and also has a spring powered counterbalance system. It's quite nice.

There is one really nice manfrotto tripod with built in spreaders, i cant remember the model though.

I found myself at a lower price point than you, but love my miller solo legs and everyone else seems to love the sachtler dv6 head with them. I've got a libec h38 head and really like it and it seems to have some nice fluid motion, but at that price I would look for something with adjustable drag and not just a locking lever.

Hi Sellington:

I beg to differ. I own the Manfrotto 501 head (the old one not the new HDV one) and the MdVE legs. It is a barely capable system for the HVX, full of stiction and the legs flex quite a bit.

I also own the Sachtler DV-6 and the Miller Solo DV carbon fibre legs. No comparison, the Sachtler and the Miller legs are leagues better than anything else in their price range. Sure, I would have rather bought an O'Connor, but they start at around $4,000.00. The DV-6 with the Miller legs is more in the $2,400.00 range but is well worth the few extra bucks if you can swing it.

If not, I would go for the Libec or the Focus, but are semi-decent for around or under $1,000.00.

In tripod legs and heads, you get what you pay for.

Enjoy!

Dan

I also own the Sachtler DV-6 but I didn't have the xtra to go for the Miller legs. I got Sachter's Speed Lock Carbon Fiber legs instead. They work really well and are very quick to set up.

I have a Libec LS60 fluid head on T97 2 stage legs with a mid spreader that I am considering selling as I need something a little smaller and mobile. PM me if interested.

Very Happy with Cartoni Focus head. I also got the cartoni 3 stage legs with it in some package deal - not bad for the price. Actually - very good for the price it seems. And the LED level bubble is cool. The Miller Solo legs are impressive but i think they are harder to operate if your on your own and your camera is attached. hmm... solo no solo?

I've used Vinten's quite a bit, and then I bought a 503/525MVB for the HVX...it's sufficient, but if I had it to do all over again I'd invest in a Vinten with carbon legs. The head is much more fluid, legs are lighter, and the friction and lock controls actually work, and don't loosen up over time.

Sachtler is heavy duty...but it's SOOO heavy compared to Manfrotto and Vinten.
