As many of you know, I have been saving up for a cam for some time now. SO, my tax return came in yesterday, so that means I need to buy a new camera.

I Have 1600 bux to spend. I was thinking of getting the new JVC HD cam with a 60 GB hard Drive. But, I want to know what you guys think

Do you guys know where I should go for a good deal? and what type of camera do you think I should purchase for $1600?

I plan on using the camera for school shorts, taping my racing events, my car club meetings, and also in the next 6 months, im going to start weddings. So, keep all of these uses in mind while leaving a suggestion

ALL RESPONSE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU!!!

used DVX100a or a Canon HV20 would be my guess. Depends on what you plan to edit on, though.

Yeah... I was thinking about the HV20 too, till I saw that you said you'd be shooting weddings in the future. The wedding clients will NOT be satisfied if you show up with a small, palm recorder. It's sad, but true... to be able to look professional will (a lot of the time) get the business over talent.

If it were me? I'd probably go with a used DVX, like others have stated. I haven't played around with the JVC, though...

I say used DVX100.

the HV20 is untested, if you buy one of the first ones, it may not be all it's cracked up to be.

Just wondering-

Is it a big deal if somebody edits their post 4 hours later?

The hv20 looks like any other camcorder that uncle jim or grandpa would be using to shoot the wedding from their seat. As a professional, you need to stand out from the ameteurs, and even though it might produce a nice image, your credibility would be in question.

I always thought it would be funny to bring along my old high8 camcorder to a wedding and see how many disturbed looks I would get before I busted out the good stuff.

As to the original question, I would say look for a nice deal on a used dvx, but make sure you take lights with you to the wedding reception.

oh most def, The only time I dont use lights is in the desert during the day.

But, would a DVC30 be ok to use? I would like a DVX, but I was never really that happy with the picture. And 1600 is pushing it.
