Using a song in a web video (legal issues?)

Hi all,

I've been asked to edit some Jiu Jitsu fights to be posted on the internet. The footage is owned by the person asking me to do this, and the videos will not be sold. The video will probably go on YouTube and then I will host a cleaner version that can be linked from the person's website. Is there any issue with adding copyrighted music to the video (ie: pulling a song off of iTunes or from a CD to put along with the video).

Thanks,

Justin

Yes, copyrighted music can't be used for that purpose even if the footage is original. With that said, it depends on whether the copyright holder will care enough to sue; it's a risk.

I though that might be the case. I'm sure that this person will not want to take any risks.

Thanks for the info.

You'd be better off finding local bands who would love to have their music heard. They'll almost always let you use their stuff for free.

Yeah smartsounds always has what I need for background music. And its just too darn easy to use if your a Premiere user.
