David O. Russell in: The World's Greatest On Set Rant

Unfortunately, that kind of behavior isn't all that uncommon on sets. I think that was Hoffman off camera left? Whoever it was certainly didn't say much! Love the crew member almost literally running off-set. Awesome.

it's not like this guy is curing cancer. as one of my freshman highschool teachers used to say, he needs a big green grow up pill.

Keep in mind too, Tomlin has been in the business for how many years now? I've been watching her for about 40 years. How long has this director been there? How much longer will Actors and Crew keep working with him?

And I have never seen this movie, the title alone was pretty stupid. I feel the same about words with numbers in them.

it was a dumb movie. although must say i was a fan of 3 kings. regardless, this guy is a real s*&t.

Agreed. She'll be working long after this tool is forgotten and left for dead. Hell, until this thread, I'd never even heard of the guy. Looking at his resume, I'm not surprised.

For him... make it a suppository inserted by the tip of a boot.

Poor Dustin Hoffman.

Now, I don't condone violence, especially against women, but he should have smacked the sh!t out of her.

Lily's a b!tch and David's a douche.

I can't believe she said that to Naomi Watts either.

I'd say I'd boycott his movies after watching this but I don't watch his crap anyways.

If you ask me, they all need to act like fukcing professionals, like this guy:

Supertrooper- great tagline in your sig!

As far as what's his name, I enjoyed 3 Kings, but I honestly can't say as I'm familiar with him or his other works, that I know of. If they were more like Huckabees than Kings, that could be why.

Hey Zak,

Thanks for posting this.

It's been said before, but I think these clips ought to be played in every directing class and every acting class.

I truly wonder what producer in his/her right mind would go looking for Russell as a director? Does he really bring that much to the production to put up with that kind of behaviour? Throwing objects around a live set isn't just costly for the time it takes to re-set, but it also puts the cast and crew at risk. Can you imagine if he'd hit the cowering actor by the door with something?

I'm a little surprised that the union reps didn't shut the whole set down.

Tantrums are fun - until someone loses an eye.

note to self:
i should stop throwing arris at actors when they dont hit their marks......

Well, Duh huh!?! Throw something that isn't so pricey, and hard to replace on set... Isn't that what PAs are for?

Ahh I don't know if this guy's the devil you make him out to be. Does he have a real bad rep? I don't think anyone should lose it like that - extremely unproffessional but Lily looks to be quiet the piece of work herself. An actor's job is to take direction (within reason) and sounds like she had a problem with everything he must have been asking. Actor's should brace themselves that a writer/director will be more anal with their beloved script, I mean he's probably played each seen out a thousand times in his head.

To comment on the way he reacted... there goes the morale on set. That can't exactly help his movie come to life.

I love that guy's movies. Including this one.

But that clip was more compelling than any of his films.

Awesome find. And thanks for posting.

Just when I think I can't hate hollywood anymore someone posts this and reminds me that I love hollywood more than ever. I love it.

That was great!!!!
