question about Los Angeles....

If you were in Santa Monica and wanted to go to a good video supply store by PUBLIC TRANSP (don't ask me why), which would be most convenient.

Last time I was there, I took buses to EVS and it was about 2 hours each way. Is there anything comparable that would take less time?

power - EVERYBODY walks here in Santa Monica. People walk in morning, walk in afternoon, walk their dogs at night. Walk to movies, walk to shopping, walk home. I walk an average of 2-5 miles a day. We walk everywhere.

Now, you know there's a subway system here. No need to take bus into LA, take the subway. Look me up when you get here.

I wouldn't say Samy's in venice (the Venice location is a very small store, the Fairfax store would be a much better choice) nor Bel Air are good video stores... What do you need?

Can't say that I need anything, but I wanna look. Reason: I live in Vermont, about 6 hours away from NYC and its B&H, Abel Cine, etc. Maybe there's something in Boston, but I figure I'm going to LA anyway. Seems like the place to find a drool-worthy store.

And as a country bumpkin, even though my sister has offered me use of her car many times, I'd rather walk or take public transp in a big city.

That's true. I thought he just needed to pick some stuff up and those stores are the closest to Santa Monica.

If you want a drool worthy experience, go to Birns and Sawyer in Hollywood at the ArcLight. It's not really a retail store but they'll have an HVX and and HD100 and bunch of pro tripods. While you're up there, the Samy's on Fairfax is worth a visit.

LA does have a subway and rail system but it's not that extensive. I don't think you can take either from Santa Monica. The nearest station is the Wilshire/Western station which is already as far east as west hollywood.

One thing I do know is that the subway goes nowhere near SM. But it sounds like Birns & Sawyer and Samy's, though probably as much of a multi-bus trek as EVS in Glendale, would be the more rewarding experience.

My advice, take your sister up on the offer, make a day of it, go to Filmtools, Studio Depot, Birns & Sawyer, Samy's, & many others.
Heck, if you are coming out to CA give me a shout (d.corona@sbcglobal.net) and I'll get you onto the lot at Sony Pictures, and Warner Bros. and let you roam through the studio expendibles store. Nothing like a video store just lots of cool expendible stuff. I'll even find a film set to get you onto.
