HOLY CRAP! I just got HD-DVD

I had a thread going a few weeks ago about 1080p... I was in Ultimate Electronics and they had a blu-ray running a 1080p lcd... it was playing The Corpse Bride.

I couldn't take a step or utter a word for 10 minutes... I was speachless and spellbound. The eye-candy was so bountiful that I felt like one of the germans from the end of Raiders. It was almost overwhelming.

I'm jealous.

Congratulations... and enjoy it. My brother (who was also speechless as he watched) said it best, "how could you see this and ever watch a normal movie again?"

Of course neither one of us can afford HD yet... but I can sure understand why you'd get it if it's within your ability.

i have a sony flat screen LCD. I believe it supports 1080i but I'm not sure how to check. Compared to what they had displayed at Best Buy, the image looks compareable, so I assume it's top notch.

in order to be labeled by the FCC mandated terms including "HDTV" a television must support the incoming signals of 480i/480p/720p/1080i . it has nothing to do with the monitors resolution. Older CRT displays sometimes dont accept 720p inputs.

yuck. babel appears in full 16x9 on my screen. I know babel wasn't shot in 16x9. Is there some hidden hd-dvd setup feature that changes it to its true ratio? All the other movies letterbox accordingly.

Babel was 16 x 9 for me as well on the 360 HD DVD player and 56FN97 JVC screen. I think thats how they wanted it on the disc cuz theres no letter box super wide on it at all.

Babel was composd for a 1.85:1 aspect ratio and mastered to 16x9 anamorphic video as "full frame", just like nearly every other 1.85:1 film. if you're seeing letterbox bars on a 16x9 display, the film's aspect ratio is likely 2.35:1.

i just got the whole planet earth series on blu-ray. rediculous. the best is the shots of the sharks jumping out of the water snatching up seals at 1000fps. i just watch over and over.....

blue ray is cleaner IMO having both system hooked up to my 42 inch hatachi plasma screen. there is super sharper image coming from it than the HD-DVD's.

yeah tv arent made to support 2.35.1 ..... yet till then you will see bars of 2.35.1 films.

most waner bros film are going to be hd-dvd seems to be their format of choice but thankfully they are starting to come over to blue rays side. still bummed about children of men and batman and the matrix trilogoy but i can get it for the other just like the BDs.
