Hey everybody, I'm shooting a feature this summer with an HVX using 720/24pn (P2 Cards), is it feasible at all to attempt to edit the footage on a 17" Powerbook G4 1.67 ghz, 2-gigs of ram, 100 gig 7200 rpm hd, a 20 inch Apple Studio Display for Preview and several external firewire 800 250GB drives? I know using an Intel Mac would be best but is this even possible? Is anyone using DVCPRO HD on a PPC Powerbook? There is a possibility of me purchasing a Mac Pro before them but if all else fails, could this work? :violin:

Yes, it's possible. A 17 inch G4 is my primary system because I need to stay mobile. I can even edit 1080 24p, though 1080 60i chokes sometimes.

Thanks a lot, glad to know it's a possibility.

I'd also recommend getting one big ass drive rather than several. You pay less per GB, less parts to go wrong.

I agree with you on that, I already have 3 250 gig firewire 800 drives but now I'm considering getting a new 24" imac to save some money and I can get a 1TB external drive. I know it won't be as powerful as a Mac Pro but at least I'll be using a core 2 Duo instead of my PowerPC. I still have a couple months to make my decision so I'm looking for them most cost effective option for post production.

Here's another question, I just bought a new 20" Studio display for a great price yesterday, would that be ok for previewing my project full screen or close to it as I edit? I would set it up as a second display and use 720/24p. It works fine in this capacity with my powerbook now for DV work so I assume it could work for that too and probably look much better quality than the DV does on it.
