"300" Controversy in Iran

Every time a state denounces this or that 'enemy state' for attacking their own culture or way of life, it is targeted at their own citizens. First, make them feel proud and superior. Next, make them outraged about the 'insult'. Then, let them know, in no uncertain terms, that they really need you (the state, the party, the government, the king, what have you) to fight this insult.

I don't think that many Westerners really cared about anti-imperialist tirades the commies did in 70s and 80s when I was growing up behind the Iron Curtain. The commies did it to control us, the poor souls stuck on the wrong side of the barbed wire. Similarly, the Iranians do it to control their own, because they know damn well that the rest of the world doesn't care a iota about their injured pride.

And similarly, the rest of the world doesn't care about injured American pride, either.

So, let's all get on with life, stop being babies, and MAKE MOVIES!

Nothing like a dose of first hand experience to put things in historical perspective.
Thanks for sharing that XCheck!.

Its funny because Iran is making themselves to be the bad guy here. Nobody gave it a second thought until they said something.

There's also a story going around that the Spartan is portrayed as President Bush, which is equaly as funny, since the novel was written 8 years ago, before he was even in office.

cant I go to a damn movie and like it... without someone saying Thats really leftest liberals or hey that the right wing conspiracy ... blah blah blah...

On a side note I happened to enjoy that there movie... i mean Boobs, blood, and brawn = TRIFECTA... was it the best movie every? nope. But it sure was fun :)

Anybody that really wants to, can pull symbolism out of anything. "That box of crackers over there represents the tyranny of the middle aged North American truck driver." Come on.

This story started over 2000 years ago. If the Iranians really want to do some good they should go back in time and tell Xerxes to stop trying to take over the known world. This whole thread could have been avoided.

I could only imagine what would have happened if they would have put the in the movie the part of history where Xerxes chops off Leonidas' head and crucified him. Xerxes actually took the body and didn't return it for forty years.

300 Controversy

300 Controversy

I have a bit of a hard time really understanding why all Iranians have their panties in such a wad over this movie. It’s a dramatic interpretation of a historic battle but more based on a COMIC BOOK for crying out loud. Maybe they just can't imagine anything without political implications, maybe they're paranoid and maybe they just hate seeing people making bushels of money by giving people a fun movie they enjoy.
People are going on and on about the writers and directors playing loose with history. 300 the movie never claimed it was a historical documentary. It's based on Frank Millers comic book with some historical facts.

It’s a blood and guts gladiator combat movie. Let the moonbats draw all the political and homophobic analogies their tiny lil’ pea brains can dream up.

The Battle of Thermopylae did happen and their are facts in this movie. 300 Spartans did kill 100,000-500,000 Persians however Persia won the battle later.
Moreover, I cant understand why my people are enraged when Iran didn't even exist back then. We are descendants of the Mesopotamians (which were made up of Afgan tribes at that time.

I'm turkish... so i dont really care.

Timur, I suspect you're Keyzer Soze.

His two main traits were exactly that - he was turkish and he didn't care.

"and like that...he disappeared - only to reappear later on DVXUser" (an earlier rejected line from the movie?)

It's not just the brutality there talking about. These people are proud people. They are affended by the homosexual overtones that the king of the Persians displays. I for 1 think the movie rocks hard. I love the look. The queen is a milf agreed:0)

But seriously, the one thing we need to start doing as Americans is appreciating other cultures and understand just because we may not be affended by somethings as a culture, that other cultures maybe. Sorry for bringing the room down but as future movie makers we have the power to shape opinions. Remember birth of a nation? A movie that the president of the United States gave a rave review of being the truth about our african american brothers. I didn't see anything wrong with 300. I loved it, but can understand someone taking it another way.

Now that being said, I give you my word that I will never speak of such seriousness again on this site.

Who's got the beer? Whoooo!!!!!
