Best format for FS-100 Import into FCP?

With the new upgrade there are a bunch more options for which modes to record in with the Firestore. The editor is working with FCP and I am normally on an Avid system so I am unsure which format works best. Shoot could run a bit past the 110 min of 24p or 24pA that I am able to record. But i dont want record time to be a limiting factor to the format choice...

I read Quicktime PN was a good method but am still unsure. And just to ease my mind FCP doesent have any problems with the new 24pN option with the firestore? I know there are some issues with avid.

So which format do you guys use with HVX and FS-100?

You should decide based on the system you'll be editing on (if you're sure Avid has issues with 720p24N), what you'll be finishing with, and well like you said, if you're concerned with recording time then you'll perhaps want to use the 24pN to help conserve time.

Don't use the FS myself, but from what I've read I'd prefer the 720p24N QT option. You get to save a whole step of processing then.

Avid has some sound issues with the FS-100 that Avid and Focus are working hard to correct. As for quality, it's all going to be the same reguardless of what recording format you use in the FS-100.

Native does give you more recording time, but doesn't officially support variable frame rate recording formats.

QuickTime saves you the P2 Import window in FCP, but you don't get clip spanning either.

FCP has no problems with either P2 PN or QuickTime PN modes on the FS-100.

Thanks BenB you bounce around in every forum i post in and answer all my questions, should I just PM you whenever I have problems? lol so if im not trying to record more than 2 gig files or whatever the cut out point is, then quicktime PN is the best option?

VaricamLife the editor has FCP, he will be editing this, I have avid which is why i need to ask and cant just test it myself.

Yeah, if your going directly to an FCP system, and don't have a real need for clip spanning (which I'm praying Focus will add this summer, dear god of all things video and digital, please guide our fellow souls at Focus to make the FS-100 exactly how I personally want it to be, in the name of F. Copella, amen bra...), use QuickTime PN. Then you just copy the files to his media drive, done. PLUS, in QuickTime mode you can use the REELS function which is really handy!

I like what I hear, I have the same question, however, does the Quicktime PN mode in the FS-100 sample at 100Mb/s ??

And I know that there is no clip spanning to reunite long lost brother clips, but a long shot taken in QuicktimePN and recorded as two files on the FS-100 should work without a perceptable seam in your FCP timeline.

At least, I hope that it would. Come to think of it, I haven't had a 2-min-plus shot since I got the firestore (on BenB's recommendation).

QuickTime PN makes the same DVCPRO-HD file as anything else. It just has a QT wrapper instead of a Panasonic MXF wrapper. Same sample rate, etc. I take very long shots, it works fine for me. Files but up against each other very well.
