ANother music video (comparing JVC to HVX200)

Here i'm posting a clip from a video i shot with JVC GY-HD100U and 35mm lenses so that you owners of HVX200 can get off on how suppior DVCPro is in comparison to HDV.

Although the video turned out good i gotta say it's the last time i'm using HDV as it's totaly unsuitable for any kind of serius color grading/post work. Unlike MiniDV, or DVCPro i can't get back underexposed images because MPEG intruduces horrible amount of large pixels.

Format asside though i picked JVC for this shoot specificaly because i could remove the lens and save myself 2-2.8 f-stops... Dream come true would be to have HVX200 body with removable lens... mmmmm.

HPX500... it's an HVX, with a removable lens, and 2/3" chips. Should be out in May (but obviously it'll be a lot more expensive than an HVX!)

Barry, i would say if you are going for such big body then Varicam would be a viable option. I mean there is something really nice about those small cameras.

The budget was i think $15g.

For rental? Sure. But for buying (or even for renting) the HPX500 body is something like 1/6 the cost of the Varicam body...

I know this isn't really about the video but I really would like to see something like this on MTV. Someone would hang themselves if something with this kind of message made it in heavy rotation on music TV stations. Great video and yes the quality is tight. I personally don't see that big of a difference between a lot of these cams honestly. I wouldn't have known this wasn't shot on film if you didn't tell me.

Format aside, that was a very well done video.

The colors were great and i loved the images, however the uber fast cuts were headache inducing to me...Sorry but its just not my cup of tea as far as the edit is concerned

I found the same with the codec used by the Sony V1. The Canon codec doesnt display this same behavior.

Just had to pop back to say I'm completely hooked on this song - playing over and over on my laptop. Driving my wife mad :Drogar-Angry(DBG):( - unlike me she can't stand endless repetition of something good ).

Describe your workflow. Did you uncompress your HDV footage?

great video man... i just purchased a DVX (practically had to sell my soul to get it) so i'm still working with that (might as well get the experience).

This is an awesome video (and song too) though I agree with you too. I've used a JVC and had a horrible time with color correction as I got all sorts of weird pixels in the darker colors when attempting to adjust the curves.

Any word on the budget and whatever...
