Walking through crowd scenes...

Hello,

Does anyone know the best way to recreate a scene that is fairly common in some movies? I've seen it in Blade Trinity. It's where the actor/actress will be walking through a crowd at normal speed or slow motion, but the crowd and everything else is very sped up. I've been wanting to do a scene like this for a music video we're working on,but can't place how to do it.

Thanks in advance :)

Seems simillar to Garden State for example zach braff on plane sitting everybody else around him is sped up. Braff had to stay as still as possible while being filmed so it looked as if everything else was moving fast around him. My best suggestion to you is practice with it mess around a bit maybe something like having your talent walk extremely slow so when you speed it up the talent will look alot slower or normal compared to the rest of the people.

Or maybe film the crowd and then the actor on a green screen? Study the scene of the crowd you filmed and choreograph the actor . It'll take work but you can do it by making sure you have a steady shot on a dolly and move backwards through the crowd. Do alot of turns in the crowd, too. Then you can give the illusion that he/she is walking endlessly when in reality she just walks a few yards infront of the screen and you cut, the actor turns and then you roll again to make her/him turn towards you again. Then film some extras infront of the green screen at the 'crowd' speed. That way you can have people moving infront of her/him fast while she's still moving normal.
Make sure you light it correctly so it looks convincing. Then it's just compositing the whole thing.

Good Idea as well.

aren´t you guys talking about diference key in after effects?
record thhe empty space, then the guy on that space, then the crowd
on that space, do a fast on the crowd. and mix in after with diference key.
i did that already on video, don´t know if it will work for film...

motion tracking camera would be my guess. with that you can film your shot once and then film it again and the camera repeats the same motion allowing you to film it once with just the main actor that you want regualr speed then do the motion again but this time have a slower frame rate to get those fast people in the scene... then after effects it together pretty easily. you can also do with a green screen and film all the actors first then green screen the guy walking the same motion but then you have the chance of actors looking like they would collide... thats my 2 cents... good luck
